Duke police investigating sexual assault on campus

The victim reported that the taxi driver touched her inappropriately.

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred in a taxi on Science Drive early Thursday morning.

According to the University, a student was taking a taxi back to campus from Shooters II on West Morgan Street with friends at about 1:30 a.m.

After returning to campus, the other students left the taxi and the victim reported that the taxi driver touched her inappropriately. She was able to exit the vehicle and run away, according to University police.

The taxi is described as a minivan with a sliding door that is possibly light green or light gold in color. The driver is described as a 40-year-old man who is 5 feet 10 inches tall, speaks with a strong foreign accent, and has short, dark, curly hair.
