Duke Hospital worker excited to be first to get vaccine
Faye Williams, who helps screen people coming into Duke University Hospital, talks about being the first person there to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
My name is Fay Williams, and I work in Duke South Lobby where we screen patients coming in for appointments. Gotcha. And Faye, is it f a y or F a y e f a y e? And how long have you been with Duke? I've been with Duke ever since July of this year. Okay, great. Eso. How did you get chosen for this honor? I have no idea. I have no idea. Uh, Lauren came looking for me and asked me, Would I be willing to do this? And before she could get the words out of her mouth, I said yes. Yes, I'll do it, you know, But I had no idea I would be the first one. And how does it feel to be the first one? I mean, this is history. No, I know it. ISS. It is exciting. And I look forward to seeing the impact. It's exciting. E mean, do you feel like it's kind of in some ways, the beginning of the end of this really difficult time that we've all been through that this is kind of the beginning of some hope? Oh, absolutely. I think it is the beginning. And it za beginning that I didn't think would come this soon. And it's the beginning that I'm looking forward to. Uh, it's a beginning for for people who have been, uh, sequestered at home, away from family and friends. So it's It's the beginning of this. It's This is exciting. You didn't have any reservations. It doesn't sound like at all. Absolutely none. None at all that it never hesitated. Okay, great faith. And then tell me if you want. If you wouldn't mind. Can you tell me how old you are? Yes, I'm 67. Okay, great. And are you guys now? Have they set you up for the second shot? Will that be the next phase? The next phase? Yes. I'm sitting here now for my observation, which is going well, I feel like the same as I did when I got here. Except being overwhelmed by the historic piece of it. But yes. And now we will be notified when it's time to take the next injection. Well, thank you so much for congratulations.
