Duke Football press conference
Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe, offensive guard Rakavius Chambers and defensive end Chris Rumph II are holding a press conference.
get ready. Lehman's joining us. Let anybody in your doctor Cat, can't we? Good? There were. Hey, can't Hadn't seen you in a while. I saw you this morning on Packer and Durham, Coach. Well, you saw May. I didn't see you. You're looking cast. We have appear Or chase. My goodness. Yeah, uh, good to see people I hadn't seen in a while. You know are well, you're with me, aren't you? Got rocket mark mortgage right behind you two. That's your loop. I'm right next door to you, Coach. He's not physically distancing. So speak wise Would write him a ticket. What is the going rate for a ticket for? Not physical distancing? Uh, is your art chase 100 bucks for all of us? You don't work 100 apiece across the board. All right, that's a good start to this. Just before we get started. I want to make sure one last time anybody need recording privileges that I have not given. All right. Are you You're ready. All right. Good to go. Uh, appreciate everybody being with us today. Um, you know, clearly, Aziz, we announced Sunday will start our phase in process for student athletes and Sunday being football? Um, so obviously there's excitement around that, Um, as with everybody else I know you certainly pertains to you guys in regards to the public release or media release of test result data. Yeah. Ah, a hot topic. Especially now that we are returning. And what I will tell you is that we will provide information consistent with our commitment to protect public health and student privacy. Um, and that is where we stand right now. Obviously, that doesn't shed a whole lot of detail, but ah, obviously when it is appropriate for us to share, we will do so. So that is that. And with that, I will turn it over to coach who will share some remarks, and then we'll open it up for questions. And as we did last time around, if you will use the rays hand feature in your account, I will call on you and, uh, you can then ask your question and we'll leave it up to coach whether or not he wants to respond or not. And we will plough on So with that coach, open it up for for some remarks. Thank you. Are I think the 1st 1 I've gotta make is based upon a conversation Art and I had when you're talking about public information with any cove in 19 testing results, can you imagine? You remember a few years ago when we had all the while with coaches when we were doing the Thursday release of injuries? Can you imagine how upset some of those guys that didn't like it would be? You're playing the game and you've got an injury lasted and you have a Kobe list you have to release. It could get unique and hurry, not scattered. Reports will take on a new meaning on the coaching profession. But let let me give you first just a little bit about what we're doing Sunday. There's a protocol. Everything we're gonna do. Actually, the players, if someone brings him like our new cars, would be generally gonna have parents with them. When they go over to the stadium where we're doing testing, we won't be around Nothing but medical people. Their players will not mean the parents will not get out far. The player on Lee goes down and they do the symptom monitoring, and then they do. The test player goes by uh, goes to their dorm room, um, goes by their their parents, helped him put things in and then say goodbye. Their quarantine. It must be the most unusual Start up for new incomers of that you've ever seen. We won't see them. We're gonna have a Sunday night team meeting via Zoom. And we won't see them until we know the results of the test whenever that occurs. And then because our guys haven't been here, the next protocol will be our medical community doing physicals and assessments. So you're gonna be seeing people. Um, quarantine. We're going to evaluate the conditioning level of players. You don't just go out there and start cold. Um, not really. Understanding where we are we're gonna do is much warm weather workers. We can a photon milk coach Durfee and his staff at length. People don't think about that. Everybody's focused on the positive or negative test, but none of us have been outside. As much as we normally wouldn't be particularly players. So we're gonna do a heat Akram ization along with assessment of soft tissue muscles where we are. We've got a month to do that before we start camp and we're gonna utilize or time. Well, well, the things I can give you guys to kind of entertain you is meeting rooms were gonna be different. We're gonna be all over this facility where we can physically distance. We will have some meetings outside. Um, if you see a projector running down on the practice field, that's us out there having a meeting where we can physically distance safely walk throughs become a real premium. Our high school coach told us to play and we want, but he told us to play without film. Hey, could coach on the grass. And so all of our he was one of the early guys in the walk through. All of our scouting reports were done out there physically, So I told her coaches, I said, Don't panic, guys. Just because you've always done installed with film and a tight, quartered meeting doesn't mean it can't be done. So there's a lot happening that way. And now we get to football. Teoh, I'm excited about our planning defensively meetings that we've had. Um I'm excited about our personnel. A like the fact that if you look at us up front, we have disruptive people that are gonna be difficult to deal with. We have speed the best speed. We've had it, linebacker, and actually size the two starters, Brandon Hill and Shaka. Hey, we're both I mean, they they can fly and they're big 63 rangy guys with Mark Gilbert returning and he practiced well and spring. I have no reason to believe that he's not gonna start well this fall. I think it would be the best secondary group that we've had quite possibly the deepest. So we're gonna be an aggressive defensive football ting. Ah, like what our coaches have put together. A like the fact that we've been able tohave zoom meetings. Um, we've got a lot of our installed done. Our players have retained. Well, they really into it. Um, I'm excited about that. That sounds offensively. We're going through some changes. We got a new coordinator that I hope I don't have to fire, but we'll see how that comes along. But we're changing some things over there just to be quite honest with you. But we've had that same advantage of meetings, had great coaches meetings via zoom. I was set up so well at my home. I have a big screen projector. Um, I mean, we worked and worked and worked. We've had meetings with the players we've been back in for for two different weeks as a staff, So I like where we are. Offensively, we've got to answer a few questions. We've got competition up from. It all starts with Jack Wall on the middle, but I'm gonna be interested in See, we're looking. It's accommodate different combinations of garden tackle. Oh, with great fried being a new line coach. And I'm loving every minute of his energy, creativity and enthusiasm. We're gonna be better there. I think we got one of the best groups. A tight end start with Noah. They're gonna play different roles. We're gonna use utilize that group differently. I love our backs. Um, I wish we were a little healthier back there. You know, we've got some young people that Marvin Hubbard and Jalen Coleman and no So with with that position, we need to stay healthy. But we got some dynamic folks and then I like our receivers. We're gonna be relatively young there, but way have some dynamic athletes. And then I got a fixed quarterback thing, and I know you all wanted over. What's Chase Bryce from do? I've never seen him throw the football in person yet, so give me a little while. You know, I was kind of cutting up with her players. Remember when you were a kid and you pick teams at school and somebody wanted to be the all time quarterback, right? I mean, that was the best deal you could be, the all who who wouldn't let anybody in the all time quarterback has to throw it better than everybody else. Everybody asking all the time. So what? What's first thing? You look forward 1/4 by, well, accuracy. Otherwise, he's not a good quarterback, period, you know? So the all time quarterbacks going through it but everybody else so you can save yourself that question, you know, just told how that works. There are obviously other things that come into play with that, we got a break in a new partner in a new place kicker. I'm glad they were here. Richard at a year ago. They know her system. Kurt Benedict's done a phenomenal job, not enough to set about him as a special teams coordinator I call him Captain Benedikt. That's just platoon. His special teams. You know, if you don't know, He served two tours in Afghanistan as a combat platoon commander. So he's a perfect fit in that role. And I really like Charlie and poorer. We got her deep snappers by we got her holder by We've got some return people. Damon Johnson made break all kind of Rikers Damon, Philly Video. Johnson may break all kinds of records. So has a return, man. So if I sound enthused about this team, I am, um we got to stay healthy, you know? And this may be the biggest challenge. Putting practice scared. You usually would take me maybe, I don't know, five minutes not take me an hour and 1/2 to fake through all of the ramifications that go with it. Contingency planning for if you lose guys to injury or cove in 19 test. Um, it's endless when you start digging the hole, Um, you know how deep it can get. But I've always been a believer in the contingency testing. I mean, contingency thought process. And so I think we've got a good plan across the board in that regard. I know that's a long opening statement, but I haven't seen you in a while. And there's a couple of things that have happened over of the last spring and summer to this point. We'll see what it brings. An art. Pick your hand, man, and let's go. All right, let's, uh, get some speed at the top of the order. Steve Wiseman? Yeah. Hey, Coach. Good to see you again. Steve. Good to see you. Yeah. Um what were you if I eyes the kids about when they're away from football gathering? Wanted to go out there, college kids, they're gonna want to. We've heard outbreaks in other schools that some have come from, you know, gathering together. It's a probably the most difficult thing that we're gonna face is that very item we may have. You know, in a normal circumstance, four hours a day is the max When school starts. That certainly will be the biggest issue in camp. We can pretty much occupied them a great deal I'm doing actually gonna build a book with a daily log. I'm working on that until my brain just quits working. But I mean literally what a daily long looks like for everyone. And so we as coaches and them, it's players can see how much free time they they're gonna have. Um I've actually told our players this This may seem naive, but I'm putting them in charge of that mitigation. Um, I'm not gonna follow them around. I told him we're not putting a chip, you know, under your skin to gps you. Well, there has to be responsibility on some 22 23 year olds. The help they know what each other do. And don't kid yourself. They know they know what their other bunnies habits are if they choose not to mitigate themselves when we got a problem. And, um, we've talked with them about it this entire time. I'll go back to when? When we first started hearing about phase two, I reminded everyone of them. I said What that means reopen means re commitment. Um, actually, mawr commitment to mitigation. Unless and, you know, they were looking at me. Like what? You know, They said it's safe to reopen. No, they said that we can attempt to reopen, but if you mask and you physically distance and your hajj ng work actually increases. You've got a shot at staying healthy. That's what it's about. In the biggest thing that I hope they buy into, Steve is. It's not about you. It's about caring about someone else. That's what the mask stops. I mean, the droplets are gonna hit the mask, and you know that that's the rial reality to this. And if you're not concerned about others, they're just gonna be very difficult. And they are, Yeah, and I've got a rising junior at home and do, believe me, she's hurt and heard the riot act a few times about making good decisions. So, you know, I've dealt with young people for 45 years, professionally. Now, I would agree with you. This is the biggest challenge that we have faced. I may. I may. I was kidding, but not kidding for over 21 year old guys. So maybe I need to open up a bar where players only down on the practice field to you know where they can gather and put the tables and seats in a safe physical distance. Because, you know, I get they wanna socialize. You know, I think we could do some gaming in the stadium. There's another one I thought about. I'm actually man the Jumbo Trump. You know, Um, so they're just we gotta be created. We could play home run derby. We're gonna do some of that. I mean, we just you know, I realized they gotta have some fun. So we're just thinking through this thing and my brains tired and you turn a little bit, but I'm will push through. Let's go. Next two. David Teel, Coach Given the the outbreaks that we've seen at some of your conference peers and also around the country, are you a glad that Duke delayed bringing athletes back and be Are you more or less optimistic about a fall football season? Yeah, I think those were too great questions. You know, I have mixed emotions about the lake coming back early coming back. Some people would look at it and and nobody. I've talked to coaches that have had problems. Nobody's trying to get him, you know, get the disease and then have it behind you. You don't like it's been suggested by some, but obviously, if our guys don't do a great John, we're starting to move in toward temp and it can affect you. Great deal if others can put it behind. But I still believe that waiting till after the Fourth of July was key for us. I think sitting back and letting these guys see what's occurred gives us a better chance for them to understand the seriousness of this. I am very optimistic. Um, still, I was extremely optimistic, maybe six weeks ago to a month. But with the late your want one was we all felt hot weather would help us. That has not been the gauge, but to, um as we have reopened. Seeing how difficult it is for the general population toe live strictly and mitigation, it makes you a little less optimistic. I think that we're still has a lot of things on the table, one week at a time as to how you do this. And I believe we can do this. I don't think our world is going to have to stop, but I think our world needs to become more disciplined, do so hopefully were disciplined enough to place and put I don't think the game of football. Once we got people feel outside, I don't see unless we got somebody severely sick playing, and that concerns me. Not for us. That concerns me about who were played. Were they involved in the same testing and the same protocol? I think that's what the Big 10 basically said yesterday, and I think at this point, that's extremely important. All right, let's pivot to Gym's owner. You're muted, Jim. Okay, uh, coaching. Tell you, confident of a decision? Are you confident of a 12 game season beginning first week in September? Are you confident with maybe more compressed season, I think I'm more confident with it being it's gonna be disruptive. I don't know that we'll get 12 games in. I don't know that we will start September 5th. I think it's still premature to really know the direction that the virus with the general population is gonna take. Um, I don't think there's any way we're gonna play without teams at some point during the year, I hope not many, but there will be teams that I can't play. Oh, you talk about player safety. You want to talk about contact tracing. If you lose an entire offensive line, you to contact rationing. You can't. You can't play a game. You can't plan for that contingency. I think there are some contingencies you can play for. You can play with a wildcat border. You can. You can move, Ah, defensive lineman to an offense of lineman or vice first to fit your team. If you have 50 2 55 players readily available, I think we need a little bit of help on before you. Red shirt relief. Um, I think all of those things, and that's why this is so complex. We're not getting much from a national decision making. We're not getting much help if we can decide on some of those things and be realistic, but way no, it's gonna happen. It's already been proven on when general populations of students come on campus, then you're going to see more cases, and that's the goal. Can't be zero cases. That's this is unrealistic. But the goal has to be proper mitigation and proper response. So if we do those things, I think we can get 10 games. We may get 12 but yeah, I just think that you guys better be ready for weekly change when I tell you today, Don't hold me to it. Oh, next Tuesday, you know. So how how cart were you with if in jump going to spring? If you Piveteau spring football, is that an option to you? Well, I think you I think what it is is the when it's the only option left. Um, I don't think it's a good option. Early spring may not look anything different than now. I mean, I don't particularly believe we're gonna have a vaccine. You know, I went through the polio thing is some of you all did it took him about three times. Took the little sugar cubes as a kid. You know, Ana, it took him a long time to get it right. So you know, who's to say in spring we get to spring and then you can't play, and then you have a whole new area of problems. If the NFL plays in the fold, we've played the spring. You're going to see a lot of college football players that are prospects not play. So teams will take only completely different. Look, what are you gonna do with the teams that all of a sudden convey get 25 mid years in and a place like Duke gets maybe three mid years. You know, the teams are gonna look, there's gonna be a great deal of disparity. So I haven't been in a meeting yet, and I've been in way too many meetings where somebody's got the perfect answer for spring football. One of the things that made me laugh is that obviously Wisconsin will call spring something different than Manny is is going to call it from my end. You know, he's ready to play in January, February and early March, and you know folks up north. Like what? No way, man, you know. So a lot of issues surrounding that, there's no simple fix, I can tell you that. All right, let's go to David Hale. Now, David, appreciate you doing this. You had kind of mentioned the implications of the Big Ten's decision and how that sort of unifies a testing and mitigation structured. And I'm curious. I know that the league has had at least some preliminary discussions with y'all about the possibility. Where is your head stand on that? Do you think that would be the better of safer option in terms of protecting your own guys? And, uh, is that be it is up to you with that direction would be going it. Well, I like the way you framed the question, but I do appreciate it cause you're this is me talking, not the A C C. It's not Dr White and Duke Athletics. This is David Cutcliffe. So I appreciate that I realized that litigation. This is a big part of everything that we're looking at. How do we manage the cancellation of potential games? Oh, the direction that's going ahead. My personal opinion is that we would all be better playing within our own leaks. Um, I would be all four league only games. I think at that point, the flexibility of scheduling ah is far greater. Then when you're playing so one out of your conference, it's gonna put people there 14 teams in our league right now, and all 14 can be held accountable. Oh, you can do you just think about it this term, and I'm not talking about anybody on our schedule, but you can do everything in your power. Take care of your players to do everything right. To keep them healthy. You can play one game and come out of that with a disaster. It's not done properly on the other side. And the reality is is this is not economically easy to do. The protocol is challenging financially, Um, so it's it's It's something that I think is on the forefront of folks minds. But if we could kind of come to an agreement across the board with not only the A five in the Group of Five, but if you did it with even the FCS, I think you'd have a better chance of playing football and it's 2020. It's not 2019 anymore. And if you have to play somebody twice playing twice, if you go back and look at it early onset of scheduling and football, that's kind of how they did it. Just make it easy to play some games and I think the public would enjoy that. This the uniqueness of season, that certainly we will all remember you. Is there a little bit of I don't have you throw anybody under the bus a little bit of frustration that there isn't more of a national game plan for this from the N. C. A. Well, I don't want to throw him under the bus either. I think that the football oversight committees done a good job, but we're not getting really I mean, you got See it? We're not getting anything out of Central Command. I mean, I was hoping that we would unify return the campus. I was hoping we would unify, return to Teoh practice and then unify return to play. That just sounds like it makes too much sense. And But, you know, I think sadly and I don't know their problems. I'm not criticizing anyone. Uh, I'm just what I said, hoping, but I think litigation and politics, which athletics and politics is certainly all in water in mind opinion. Um, but I think that's been the biggest block, and I don't know everybody's problems, but, you know, I love that that a t and T commercial where the guy says, Stay in your lane, bro. We got a better shot. If we could kind of manage that. All right, let's go toe. Tom Shanahan. So, what about that? Can hear me now? Yes, Yes. Sorry about that, Coach. I'm technology challenged. Um, you've already touched on this a little bit, but going back to April, number one of the things points you made was you hoped everybody kept on their American football coach Association had and not their school hat. Did you see that kind of unraveling pretty quickly? And who and can we get to the point where everybody is on the same page? You know, our our board meetings had Tom have been really good, we got a unique settle people. So, um, the power five is strongly represented, As you might imagine on that board, the executive director, Tom Barry. I'm known a long time. He's done a good job with it. We got every division represented of football division three alone, and I think the people in that board meeting have done a really good job where you run into problems. Just when you break away from that or debating and you go back and you report to your conference, some of it has fallen on deaf ears, and I do realize again, I don't know. Each and every conferences issue had coaches on that board from different levels and from Group of Five Conference, and it's told me and asked me questions like, Hey, I just got off the phone with our commissioner and he said This this necessary All here. This should know. We have heard that, and that's why it's so difficult. If there's not one voice to represent all of it, then then everybody has their own vantage point, and everybody looks at it. Things on you and I get this. I mean, when you look at the financial differences in each institution, as well as conferences across the board, there are hard decisions having to be made. Um, my, I will say this. My thing that's impressed me the most of this point is that I do think that player safety has been before front. Brian Hainline, who is Ah, medical director for the N. C. Double A, has done a good job communicating. We've had a bunch of physicians that air involved. They're not telling us what to do before they really clearly and concisely communicated. And I do think the coaches that I have been in meetings with or putting first and foremost player safety at the forefront and I do hope that we continue that mode it is frightening, is challenging. But if you do everything from that directive, then we gotta believe we're doing the right things. All right, let's go back. Two. David Teel, coach. Just piggybacking on under the answer to David's question regarding nonconference or excuse me, Conference on Lee schedule. You're supposed to go to Notre Dame in October. Would you want the league to incorporate Notre Dame into a conference on Lee schedule if they're willing to share their money? Sure. Oh, I mean, you know you don't get something for nothing. You know, on, um, I would welcome him as a coach to be a part of a C C. Football. It's a great program, great story program, but it's a great program right now. Brian has done a great job there. But, you know, I'm sure that they're a member of the A, C, C and everything but football. So I'm sure that might be part of the conversation. Not one I'm privy to, but Haynos All right, back to Jim. Yeah, Coach, uh, are we operating under the assumption, but we haven't read. We talked about players having talked about fans. We are for a deception that there will be fans in the stadium at some point. Or are you prepared for a completely famous existence? You know, I'll be real honest. Um, I haven't been a part of discussions, Rick. Involving the fans, I think, personally, that's gonna be a difficult task When you put people in a football game and asked him to physically distance and wear masks. Um, I wear a mask as soon as I walk in the the yo, uh, toe work. I have a Maskell every meeting. I have a master. I'm wearing a mask. 10. The 12 hours. Only time I can take it off when I'm completely by myself in a room with the door shut. Oh, in air conditioning. That has been hard. I'm getting better at it. I'm getting used to it. Um, I want to develop a mask where I can put a stroll right here. That has a flap because you're trying to drink. My coffee has been a nightmare, you know? But, um, I just don't know that it's gonna be feasible, but again, I haven't been part of those those meetings. I'd hate to take the game away from the fans, parents and, you know, um but I don't know, to be honest with you, what to expect, concessions might be hurt, you know, I don't know. Maybe we will sell mask with sodas. They work. They'll keep the loan with the stroll. Now somebody's you'll go make a $1,000,000 from Don't let it be the optic grammar. You ever see the movie The jerk? You remember? Everybody's gonna end up with their mouth closing up or something, but, uh, and don't want to be a part of another class action litigation. David, you need a good copy and journey. Yeah, all right. I don't see any other hands. So with that, we will excuse Coach Cutcliffe. And I'm sure cats got Octavius, uh, coming up here shortly. So, Coach, thank you for your time. Well, you're gonna get a better looking guy and rock then with may. So take care is going to see everyone. Please stay healthy. Be careful. Thanks, Coach. Thank you, guys. No surprise. Not one beard Comment, Not one. You may on Grey. It is. All right. Iraq Habeus. How are you? Whoa, Are you great? Right? Well, welcome to this virtual press conference and certainly appreciate you taking some time today. Uh, how this will work is, uh I will call on these fine people. Teoh to ask you some questions, and then when you're done, I'll just move along to the next one. So with that, we will kick things off with Steve Wiseman. Iraq. What? What is your approach? As you get back on campus to trying to mitigate things you're trying to be? My approach is to limit my interactions, but those not associated with the program as much as possible. Um, I think of a protocol that do footballers created is gonna provide us the best opportunity toe stay safe and also allows to get Make sure that everyone's in playing shape and make sure that everyone is ableto be ready for the season when that time comes. So I mean, my approach is just to strictly follow that protocol that make sure that my teammates myself following that protocol as best we can. All right, let's pivot over to Jim. Yeah, Rock, How obvious question. But have you spent the summer? How have you tried the trying to stay in a power comfortable? Jari, are you with your Europe? Your fitness level world is with what you would have expected to be in the normal circumstances. When we first entered the corn Gene, Uh, mode. I was really nervous about how it was gonna work out, and I'm worried about what my fitness level was gonna be. But, Dr, this summer I've had friends and family. Give me weights, and I've been to my high school multiple times and abs ever run and work out on their field. So I'm not really concerned about my fitness level. I think I'm prepared to go back, and I'm in really good playing shape because I was ableto receive those weights and go work out on that field. So I think I'm pretty ready and ready to go. All right, let's put pivot over to Mike. Hey, thanks so much for joining us. Ah, a two parter. First of all, Coach mentioned that he wanted to kind of what the players almost police themselves as faras activity outside the football field. You know, he says, you know, players know what other guys are doing, Um, as it, you know, an upperclassman there. How do you take that responsibility on yourself to kind of make sure and not really keep an eye on, but communicate to your teammates about being safe and not going out in that sort of thing. Well, Duke is a different place for special people and each of the guys that coach and the football staff recruits. They come to Duke knowing that they have to follow the tomb roles and that they have to what they joined Do Gang. They're following the tools and the team standards. And so, um, being a senior leader, I think it's important that I be an example and set those standards. So I'm not not social distancing. I'm not out without a mask and always washing the hands, practicing good hygiene, um, in the locker room and making sure that everything is clean at all times. So I think it's important that I set a good example for them and then also make sure that they're not having secret parties are going out when they shouldn't be going out and stuff. So in order to do that, you'd have to build that bond, make sure that everyone has bought into this plan so that we can have a season because if everyone doesn't buy in then so issues arise and we don't want those issues toe occur. So I think it's important that I just I and other singers step up and make sure that those guys air following directions and buying into the short couple weeks that we have so that we can enjoy our season. All right, let's go to David Shoe mate Rock new coach along the offensive line this year. Great for I would have been like working with them. I know you had time in person time, but it's been like work with him coming from the spring. We only have three practices with them, but immediately from the jumpy, he set the tone that this is gonna be a different season. There's a different year for the Duke officer line. Um, he's coming with a new mentality that we're gonna be whoever in front of us and no matter what, your technique is gonna allow you to be in a position to dominate your your opponent. And I think we've taken that from the justice three practices that we've had in the spring throughout this entire according to period in the offseason, and we've applied that to attacking our weaknesses and attacking what we can be better at since we have had it so much at a time that we usually wouldn't have to just work on ourselves. So he's allowed us to focus more on ourselves. But he's also be taking us to film throughout meetings and, um, coaching this toughly and making sure that we identify all our problems. And I think he's been He's been a great addition, and I'm excited to get back and start working with him somewhere. All right, let's go to Aaron Beard. They were okay. This I'm curious how closely you've been watching all the news, the fluid situation of the Big 10 and all these things. How much that you're paying attention to it, How much that makes you worried or trying to stay optimistic about the idea of being able to go forward with football. I tend to be in our optimistic person in general, and, um, I if you watch the news, you it's really hard to do sometimes. But I still pay attention just to be informed. And, you know, I understand that this is gonna be a sensitive situation under any circumstances. And so I think no one is actually sure of what they're doing because we've never been in a situation like this before. But when someone presents ideas. Such a splaying only conference games, I think, is important for everyone to buy. End to that buck. Because if we have, everyone doesn't buy end and there's a problem. Problems are gonna rise and then we are back to square one and having to come up with something completely brand new. So and then too concerned with how things were going on, because I think they see, see and, um, do football and coach cut. They're not gonna put us for the players in a situation where it's not safe for us. That's safe for our families. I'm I trust the coaches aft, and I know that if they're proposing protocol proposing a way for us to play, then they have talked to health experts and they are certain that this is the safest way and most effective way for us to play. So I stay optimistic and I'm not too concerned. All right, Tom, this is, um and I wonder what chatter was among the players going back to see maybe June when you saw other schools, kids coming back to campus and having in voluntary workouts and you guys might have been limited more than other colleges. Maybe that was frustrating at first, but now looks like the smarter decision. Just wondering what the Chandor was among the team. Yeah, the Children of the team. We were all really, really frustrated because we thought those guys trained have a huge advantage of rest. But I mean, as it turns out, none of those guys are all testing positive. I think it was important that we were at home and have a better protocol in place than those other schools that we're all frustrated, of course. But we were still working out, and I think that almost encouraged us to go out and work even harder and whatever situation we had at our homes. So whether you didn't have any ways, whether you had waste after high school and I I think guys really took it upon themselves to go even harder and work out to the level to beat those guys who had an advantage of being able to go back earlier. All right, let's go back to Mike. Uh, yeah, real quick. Just cause you're giving us the time. What's up with all the clocks? Um, I I don't know. I have this weird relationship with time. I just enjoy clocks, and I always want to be on time Number. What? And honestly, you know what time the time is now for us to go bag? But I was down for us to get started. And I guess all these boxes just, uh example of that. Enough. All right, so they all have different times, Rock. They do it, uh, that each time is set your specific date. That was important to may I just always have something to look back on. Remember, to keep forward and that keep looking forward in that time is always moving so they'll never let it get to you just to set the record clear. The biggest clock has my birthdate. So rock obvious doesn't forget that. But, uh, let's pivot over to Brendan Iraq. You mentioned being an optimist and trying to approach the situation is optimistically as possible. The coaching staffs not gonna ask you guys to be put in a position where anything is unsafe. I just wonder what the conversations have been like with your family about going back. And you know what their thoughts have been. How you guys have had a person. Those conversations? Yeah, Coach could And staff. They had this meeting with our all of our parents on a zoom and they were talking about the protocols for us to go back. I think that meeting lasted about an hour and 1/2 and that's a a long time for Coach Cut and our trainings after just sit down and answer questions about what our protocol is gonna be. And I really appreciate it. And I know my mom did as well, So they've been completely open about what's going on and how many tests were received and how we're gonna be safe and what they're gonna do to maintain that safety. And I think that transparency has been good to ease my parents fears and especially Mom. She so where? All the time. But yeah, I'm I think, kind of the staff. They've done a great job with easing Legrand spheres, of course, is danger with this danger in playing football and despicable normally. So, um, my mom is okay with the situation. I think Coach has done a good job using all the other parents peers as well. Let's go down to Shane. Hey, rock, how's it going? Uh, you guys, only you haven't had Chase Bryce on campus for practices yet. And now you only got a few spring practices there with the other guys. But, you know, with new quarterback under center in the offense and with a new offensive coordinator, you know what's kind of your outlook on how the offense will change coming up. I know this offense is ready to go. This offense is tired of being, um, embarrassed and the retired of not scoring enough points. And I think everyone's bought into Coach Tarred and, um, his mantra. We're gonna We're gonna be on offense the top offense and I used to see and that's that's our goal. I think all the offensive linemen and the quarterbacks and wide receivers and running backs and tight ends. We've all discussed it among looked each other that no matter what, no matter who's playing, no matter what, you have to go as hard as we possibly can to make sure that we're the top offense in the easy see and adding chase and, um, coach cut and them and their new mindsets and their new skills and talents. I think that's just gonna take us to the next level and pushes forward on I'm excited to get back. We've had great meetings with coach cut and installing plays and looking at film, so I'm ready to get back. And what kind of the King says right now we're all Onley in visual likeable players, mostly in our heads is going Tonto, give with everyone and actually work out the place on the field. All right, Uh, rock Avis. Appreciate the time on. Um, look forward to seeing you on Sunday. All right. Wonder if Octavius knows the sending that it's five oclock somewhere. All right. We'll kick things off with Steve Wiseman. Chris, how are you? I'm good. How you do it. Good. Listen, tell me how you want to approach, You know, stay in safe and especially when you're off the field. Rock just told us this kind of everybody has to buy into this for this to work. And I mean, how much do you know about how the season won't work? Unless, you know, everybody stays healthy and waken have full teams. Uh, I do you got me? Okay. Thank you. I don't want todo.
