DUNN, N.C. — Part of Interstate 95 in Harnett County was closed on Thursday afternoon from a tractor-trailer flipped.

George Gaydon said he's a lucky man. He works for Patterson Plants out of Plant City, Florida. He was headed north on I-95 on Thursday afternoon when one of his truck's front tires blew.

"Once the tire blew, [the truck] went into the guardrail ... all I could do is pray from that point," said Gaydon.

Gaydon says it's a miracle he was able to stop the truck from hitting other vehicle on the interstate near Longbranch Road. He was headed to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with 43,000 pounds of cabbage and tomatoes.
Part of Interstate 95 in Harnett County was closed on Thursday afternoon because of a crash.

"The weight of the trailer and the weight that was in it, it was digging down in that dirt [and] pulling it real tight — making it stop. That's the only think I had left to depend on to get that thing to stop," said Gaydon.

Gaydon was able to kick out the windshield to escape after the crash. The accident shut down I-95 in both directions for a couple of hours.

Gaydon said he's glad no one else was hurt.

"[I] made sure nobody got hurt or killed and checked everything else ... I'm lucky to be here," he said.

Officials said the plan is to unload the produce and a large tow truck will pull the tractor-trailer up.
