Driver says he's 'lucky to be alive' after tractor-trailer overturns on I-95
Part of Interstate 95 in Harnett County was closed on Thursday afternoon because of a crash.
Posted — UpdatedGeorge Gaydon said he's a lucky man. He works for Patterson Plants out of Plant City, Florida. He was headed north on I-95 on Thursday afternoon when one of his truck's front tires blew.
"Once the tire blew, [the truck] went into the guardrail ... all I could do is pray from that point," said Gaydon.
"The weight of the trailer and the weight that was in it, it was digging down in that dirt [and] pulling it real tight — making it stop. That's the only think I had left to depend on to get that thing to stop," said Gaydon.
Gaydon said he's glad no one else was hurt.
"[I] made sure nobody got hurt or killed and checked everything else ... I'm lucky to be here," he said.
Officials said the plan is to unload the produce and a large tow truck will pull the tractor-trailer up.
