RALEIGH, N.C. — A major road in Raleigh was shut down after a driver crashed bringing down utility poles – then ran away.

Two power poles were down and power lines were lying across a section of New Bern Avenue, shutting down the road between Idlewild Ave. and Tarboro Street.

Police say the driver got out of their car and ran after the crash, which happened around 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Crews have to re-set the power poles. Around 9 a.m., Duke Energy said they expected to have at least one lane open within an hour or so.

There is no word on injuries or what caused the crash.

WRAL News will update this story as more information becomes available.
