Driver pulled over in Zebulon, called 911 to report he was shot

— A man pulled over on the side of the highway in Zebulon on Thursday and called for help after he was shot between Nashville and Rocky Mount, police say.

According to the Nashville Police Department, someone drove up beside the victim's car and shot him before 1 a.m. The victim began driving but pulled over near Zebulon where U.S. Highway 64 and U.S. Highway 264 meet to call 911.

The victim was taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be okay, police said.

Both the Zebulon Police Department and the Wake County Sheriff's Office responded after the victim called for help.

The shooter and the man knew each other, police said, but they did not release the name of the suspect.

An investigation is underway.
