HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated Wednesday after a six-car crash closed N.C. Highway 55 in Holly Springs during the evening rush hour.

According to police, Jacob Partin, 21, of Fuquay-Varina, was charged with DWI.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on N.C. 55 southbound near the Green Oaks Parkway intersection. Six cars were involved.

Police said an impaired driver was speeding when his truck hit another car and several others moving slowly in rush hour traffic.

The truck lost several tires and caught fire, police said. An off-duty Cary firefighter saw the crash and pulled the driver out of the burning truck.

Police said other people were injured in the crash but not badly enough to go to the hospital.

N.C. 55 was closed for more than an hour, reopening by 7 p.m.
