Driver killed when vehicle strikes tree

Speeding was a factor in an early morning wreck in which a vehicle struck a tree, killing the driver, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — Speeding was a factor in an early morning wreck in which a vehicle struck a tree, killing the driver, police said.

Police said that a northbound 2008 Dodge ran off South Roxboro Street, near Masondale Avenue, around 2:10 a.m. and struck a tree.

The driver died of injuries at the scene. The victim's identity was withheld, pending notification of family.

Police said that the Dodge was totaled. The wreck remains under investigation.
