<b>BENSON, N.C.</b> — One man died overnight when his car ran off the road.

The crash occurred along 981 Denning Road in Benson. Troopers said Carl Hines 59, of Angier, was killed when he ran off the road while taking a turn, overcorrected and flipped over in a field.

Officials do not believe the crash was weather related. An investigation is underway.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer discovered the body of a man inside a vehicle at Hobbton Middle School athletic field. Authorities believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
