Driver killed in Fayetteville wreck

Police said the wreck occurred around 5:10 p.m. when a truck traveling at a high rate of speed on Helen Street attempted to pass another driver. The truck, driven byDarnel Williams, 50, of Fayeteville, clipped the rear end of the other vehicle. The truck veered off the road and hit a utlilty pole.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A pickup truck driver was killed Friday afternoon in a wreck on Helen Street in Fayetteville, police said.

Police said the wreck occurred around 5:10 p.m. when a truck traveling at a high rate of speed on Helen Street attempted to pass another driver. The truck, driven by Darnel Williams, 50, of Fayetteville, clipped the rear end of the other vehicle. The truck veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

Williams was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
