DURHAM, N.C. — One man is in custody and police are searching for another following a crash Thursday afternoon in Durham.

The Durham County Sheriff’s office said deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of Lakewood Avenue and Duke Street just before 4 p.m. and attempted to make a traffic stop after realizing the vehicle had a fake license plate.

The driver refused to stop, fled the area and was struck by another car when it ran a traffic light on Morehead Avenue.

Two men ran from the vehicle, but the driver was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. Charges against him are pending, authorities said.

Deputies are searching for the passenger, who is described as being thin with a short haircut. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and camouflage pants.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Durham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-560-0897.
