Driver hurt when pickup flipped by freight train

A man was hurt Wednesday when he pulled in front of a freight train and it slammed into his pickup.

WEST END, N.C. — A man was hurt Wednesday when he pulled in front of a freight train and it slammed into his pickup.

The crash occurred at about noon near West End Elementary School in Moore County.

The driver, whose name hasn't been released, pulled out of a private drive onto N.C. Highway 211 into the path of the freight train, according to the Aberdeen Times. The train, which was hauling empty cars and was moving at 25 to 30 mph, hit the pickup, flipping it onto its roof.

The driver was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
