ROXBORO, N.C. — A deadly car crash Saturday morning in Person County claimed two teenagers' lives and seriously injured three others. Authorities are now saying the driver involved was impaired while behind the wheel.

The accident happened at 1:19 a.m. on Shiloh Church Road near Dorothy Brooks Lane in Roxboro.

The driver of a Hyundai Sonata was traveling east when he crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road, colliding with a tree.

The driver, Stephen Moore, 18, was taken to Duke University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers, Isaac Bowen and Jordan Humphrey, died at the scene.

Moore is facing charges of felony death by vehicle (two counts) and driving while impaired. A state trooper who spoke with WRAL News estimated Moore was driving faster than 75 mph. The speed limit along that stretch of road of 45 mph.

It's a horrifically sad situation," said Joseph Dibiasi, who owns the land where the crash occurred. "It's a little bit of a dangerous road. Forty-five [mph] is probably way more than you need to go on this road."

Dibiasi said a lot of truck drivers drive the road and most of them drive over the speed limit.

Two other passengers, Madison Plumley and Tyler Bowen, were also taken to Duke University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The ages of the people in the vehicle range from 17 to 18 years old.

A vigil for Humphrey and Bowen is planned for Tuesday night at the McDonald's on Madison Boulevard in Roxboro at 8:45 p.m.

On Monday, the Bowen family was grieving the loss of their son, Isaac, and standing watch at the hospital while Tyler, his brother, had surgery.

Their pastor, Josh Westmoreland, said they are doing surprisingly well.

"Leaning more on their faith in Christ than they ever have in their life," Westmoreland said.

Isaac had a job and was working towards his GED. He was the second of four boys.

"Because there's several teenage boys in the family it's always wild, it's always crazy, in the best way," Westmoreland said.

The friends were fishing before the crash.

"They wanted to communicate to the families of the other young people and this community here in Roxboro, that they hold no animosity towards the driver," said Westmoreland of the family. "As difficult and almost impossible as that would sound."

Humphrey's funeral will be held on Thursday at Prospect Hill Baptist Church on Bethel School Road in Roxboro. It begins at 2 p.m. A visitation and wake for Bowen will be held at Stickland & Jones Memorial Funeral Services in Roxboro Friday at 6 p.m.
