RALEIGH, N.C. — A Greensboro woman was charged with driving while impaired Friday following a wreck that closed Poole Road for more than nine hours, police said.

A car crashed into a utility pole in the 2900 block of Poole Road at about 2:30 a.m., splitting the pole and disrupting electrical service in the area, police said.

Witnesses said Mazzie Pauline Epps, 49, appeared to be intoxicated when left a nearby convenience store shortly before the wreck, according to a police report. The report also notes that Epps was driving 45 mph in a 35-mph zone.

Epps was taken to WakeMed for treatment of injuries that weren't life-threatening, police said.

She was charged with DWI and failure to maintain lane.

Poole Road reopened shortly before noon after crews replaced the broken utility pole.
