Driver dies after crashing into a tree along Durham Freeway

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said alcohol, drugs and speed were not a factor in the crash.

DURHAM, N.C. — A driver died after a single-vehicle accident Friday morning on North Carolina Highway 147 near Alexander Drive, according to the State Highway Patrol.

The state believes the driver suffered from a medical emergency before running off the road and crashing into a tree. The driver died at the scene, according to the state.

Authorities said alcohol, drugs and speed were not a factor in the crash.

The State Highway Patrol did not identify the victim because they are notifying the family.
