<b>GULF, N.C.</b> — A driver died in a Wednesday morning crash on U.S. Route 421.

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper said two vehicles were headed north on U.S. 421 when a passenger car hit the back of a truck carrying lumber. The crash happened near Plank Road near the Lee County/Chatham County line.

The driver of the car was killed. The driver was not identified.
