Driver charged with DWI after western Wake County wreck

A driver was intoxicated when his vehicle crashed into a power pole in Wake County, west of Cary, early Sunday, state troopers said.

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — A driver was intoxicated when his vehicle crashed into a power pole in Wake County, west of Cary, early Sunday, state troopers said.

Troopers said the utility pole fell on top of the 2002 Honda Accord during the wreck at Green Level Road West and Green Level Church Road around 2:40 a.m.

Th driver, a man in his 40s, was knocked unconscious and transported to Duke University Hospital, troopers said.

The name of the driver was not released Sunday but troopers said he was charged with DWI. He also has a prior DWI charge, according to troopers.
