CREEDMOOR, N.C. — State troopers charged a 50-year-old Durham man with driving while impaired after his car crashed into trees along the Wake-Granville county line Friday.

Troopers said that Denny Alan Dennis, of 4008 Laurel Drive, was driving a 1992 Oldsmobile 88 east on Old Weaver Trail shortly after 11 a.m. On a curve near Cash Road, his vehicle ran off the right side of the road and hit several trees.

Dennis was taken to Duke University Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Troopers said Dennis had been consuming alcohol and was very impaired. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Dennis faces charges of DWI, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and violating an alcohol restriction on his driver's license. That restriction stemmed from a prior DWI conviction, troopers said.
