RALEIGH, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina man was charged Friday after his truck collided with a Raleigh fire engine, police said.

The fire truck was attempting to turn left from Dawson Street onto Martin Street in downtown Raleigh at about 8 a.m. when a Ford pickup drove through the intersection and collided with the fire truck, police said.

A witness told police that another fire engine had already turned on to Martin Street and that the emergency lights and sirens were operating on both fire trucks. The witness said it appeared that the pickup was trying to get through the intersection before the traffic signal turned red.

Dwayne Cameron Patterson, 44, of 212 Seaton Drive, was charged with failure to stop for an emergency vehicle.
