APEX, N.C. — Wake County deputies arrested a 21-year-old driver and were searching for the man’s passenger after a short chase and crash on Jenks Road early Tuesday.

Deputies tried to stop Mason Liggett, of 3208 U.S. Highway 64, for speeding and reckless driving, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Phyllis Stephens. Liggett drove off and deputies began a short pursuit, she said.

Liggett eventually crashed into the deputy's car, which sustained minor damage, and he and his passenger jumped out and ran, according to troopers.

Deputies caught Liggett, but were still looking for the passenger, whose name was not released.

Liggett was charged with DWI, resisting, delaying and obstructing, failing to stop and having no operator's license, among other charges, according to Stephens.
