Driver arrested, passenger hurt after chase and crash in Johnston County

One person was taken to a local hospital and a suspect was in custody after the driver allegedly led Johnston County sheriff's deputies on a chase before the vehicle he was in crashed, authorities said.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — One person was taken to a local hospital and a suspect was in custody after the driver allegedly led Johnston County sheriff's deputies on a chase before the vehicle they were in crashed, authorities said.

The incident occurred Sunday around 9 p.m. on N.C. Highway 42 when a deputy saw a speeding red Corvette traveling about 100 mph, authorities told WRAL News.

The deputy started to pursue the car but the unidentified driver of the Corvette lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a ditch before rolling over several times, authorities said.

The driver ran from the scene but was caught and taken into custody, authorities said.

The passenger was rushed to a local hospital but their condition was not immediately available.

It was not clear what charges the driver would face.
