DURHAM, N.C. — Gunfire in the middle of the night kept Durham police busy for hours overnight. The shootings were less than an hour apart and within 3.5 miles of each other.

A shooting on N. Roxboro Street happened around midnight. The major road was closed until around 6 a.m. and littered with bright red shoes, clothes and other items, which had orange evidence markers placed beside them.

A forensics team seemed to be focusing the investigation around a silver vehicle parked in front of a home. According to officials, the car went off the side of the road and into the front yard around midnight when the shooting happened.

The home owner said he heard dozens of shots overnight – and there are dozens of bullet holes in the car. He said he saw a man lying in the street. Officials said a man had been shot and seriously injured before being transported to the hospital.

Officials were also investigating another shooting, less than 4 miles away, on Angier Avenue.

A man was taken to the hospital from the 2100 block of Angier Avenue, but is expected to be okay, according to officials.

Police say the investigations are still ongoing.

WRAL News is working to learn if investigators have identified or arrested a shooter in either case.
