the day, Emily Austin door first met Nigel, it was magical. I went to three different places. I kind of wanted like a fluffy white cat and then this little black and white cat one day walks up to me. He's the only little kitten in the whole place that walks up to me. So I was like, he chose me, her sisters called him magic man. She is so magical. Just everything he does. He's like a human. Almost in 14 years. Nigel went with Emily from city, the city before settling down in south charlotte. So he was always just up here on the porch. He was a great porch cat. He never travel away from the yard until last week when Emily awoke to a ping from her doorbell camera, she watched as a coyote crossed her front yard. Nigel wandered over. So they just kind of came around here. I don't know what happened. But then um Nigel ended up over here in this corner, his body lifeless. The coyote scurried back to the woods and I didn't know how prevalent they were in your neighborhood. Coyotes are here in north Carolina. They're here to stay state wildlife resource commissions. Fallon Owen says the fall is when teenage coyotes strike off by themselves, they often howl and wander into neighborhoods. Owen says they prey on small pets, but they're afraid of humans. If you see a coyote in your neighborhood, scare it off. That teaches them to be afraid of us. She says small pets should be kept inside, which Emily learned the worst way. What are you doing to honor Nigel's life? Well, this for one, hopefully helping other outdoor loved ones. And I don't know, I mean it's been a week and I'm still and shock about it. He was my best friend, hoping her best friend's magic protects other furry friends in south charlotte, Brandon, Goldner, WCNC charlotte.

I'm meteorologist Amy Wing in the WRL severe weather center. We have a lot of sunshine over North Carolina today, but clouds will be moving in overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow and eventually storms will get here today. The severe weather threat is well to the west of us. You can see that in those bright shades of reds, oranges and yellows. As the system gets closer to North Carolina tomorrow, it loses some of its energy. Most of the energy will be south of North Carolina. But in the afternoon and evening, we do have some weak energy so some isolated, severe storms will be possible from around southern Wake County and points to the west and southwest. This would be for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, it's about a 30 to 40% chance for showers and storms tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. And then as we get into Saturday, it looks mainly dry, but we'll have another round of rain. On Sunday, we do have another cold front that arrives this weekend and a low pressure system moving along that front will likely provide us with some rain, especially the second half of the day. On Sunday, also note we're on the cool side of the front and so temperatures will be much cooler. On Sunday, temperatures will be down into the forties, Sunday night and Monday night, high temperatures will stay in the sixties as we head into Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon. So we're going from this warm summer like pattern to some much cooler temperatures the second half of the weekend and into early next week. But highs are back in the mid to upper seventies as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday.
