A dog died in an early Sunday house fire in Apex, authorities said.

APEX, N.C. — A dog died in an early Sunday house fire in Apex, authorities said.

The fire was reported shortly before 5 a.m. at 100 Perry Farms Drive.

Firefighters from Apex and Cary responded, and flames were visible by the time the arrived.

A mother, her daughter and an infant escaped unharmed after their home security system alerted them to the fire, authorities said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The two-story home is expected to be a total loss, authorities said.

Red Cross was notified and will assist the family.
