The Department of Defense on Monday announced the deaths of two Marines from Camp Lejeune.

Lance Cpl. Shawn P. Hefner, 22, of Hico, Texas, was an assault amphibious vehicle crewman assigned to Company D, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 7, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade. He died in combat operations Nov. 13 in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Hefner joined the Marine Corps in January 2008 and was promoted to the rank of lance corporal on Nov. 1.

Staff Sgt. Stephen L. Murphy, 36, of Jaffery, N.H., died Nov. 9 in a non-hostile incident in Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group at Camp Lejeune.
