Do you help your kids with their homework?

Posted March 8, 2010 8:31 p.m. EST

My daughter will be headed to kindergarten this fall. And when I asked her school's principal how much homework she'll have once she gets there, I was a little shocked when the answer was 20 minutes. A night.

Then he described exactly what that homework would be and most of it was a recommendation from the school that we read to her for at least 15 minutes a day. No problem there.

But I know that over the next few years, her book bag will begin to come home loaded with more and more worksheets (do they still have those?) and other assignments.

How hands on are you when it comes to homework? Do you help your kids finish their assignments? Do you just answer a few questions? Or do you leave it up to them? Are they getting too much or too little?

And if you're struggling with just how much help you should provide, check out the U.S. Department of Education's "Helping Your Child" series with booklets on topics such as how to help your children learn math, science and history.
