CLINTON, N.C. — The state Division of Motor Vehicles’ License and Theft Bureau has charged three Sampson County men with manufacturing false or fraudulent identification documents.

Luis Omar Rivera, 31, Jose Wilfredo Rivera, 27, and Olegario Cegovia Gomez, 36, also are being held on immigration detainers by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to determine if they are in the country legally. Luis and Jose Rivera are brothers, authorities said.

The DMV conducted a four-month undercover investigation into the operation of a document lab that included three undercover purchases of counterfeit resident alien cards and Social Security cards.

State and federal agents seized Social Security cards, birth certificates, car titles, photographs, a Polaroid camera, heat seals, a computer scanner, Texas birth certificates, a typewriter and $1,165 in cash from two residences last week, authorities said.
