Dix Park plans a summer of movies on the lawn

Movies on the Lawn is back at Dix Park near downtown Raleigh this summer. These outdoor movie screenings feature (mostly) family-friendly movies.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Movies on the Lawn is back at Dix Park near downtown Raleigh this summer. These outdoor movie screenings feature (mostly) family-friendly movies.

Tickets are required in advance, but they are free.

While the park has hosted drive-in movies before, during these events, you'll be sitting on the lawn to enjoy the show. Be sure to bring a blanket or low beach chair to sit on so you don't block the view of others.

Food trucks will be on hand, but you can bring your own food too. The movies take place in Flowers Field, 2105 Umstead Dr. Parking will be available in four lots off Umstead Drive.

Here's the schedule!

June 12: Family Superhero Night

Gates open at 7 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m., movie. "The Incredibles" will be on the big screen. Dress as your favorite superhero; a costume contest is planned. A few characters also will be on hand.

June 26: Date Night

Gates open at 7 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m., movie.. "50 First Dates" will be on the big screen.

July 10: Family Pirate Night

Gates open at 7 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m., movie. "Pirates of the Caribbean-Curse of the Black Pearl" will be on the big screen. Come dress as a pirate for a costume contest.

July 24: Scary Movie Night

Gates open at 7 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m., movie. "Scream" is on the schedule.

Aug. 7: Family Sports Night

Gates open at 7 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m., movie. "The Mighty Ducks" is planned. Come dressed in your favorite sports gear.
