BUTNER, N.C. — The director of the juvenile detention facility in Butner has resigned, WRAL News learned Wednesday.

In a letter, Kathy Porras resigned effective Tuesday from her position at the C.A. Dillon Youth Development Center. She did not give a reason for her departure.

Last month, the state Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reassigned Porras and placed five employees on leave pending the outcome of an investigation involving a counselor accused of having sex with boys housed there.

Shannon Richardson West, 40, is charged with two counts of sexual activity by a custodian.

Four of the employees on leave have returned to work.
