DURHAM, N.C. — Diaper Bank of North Carolina on Thursday launched a fundraiser to collect donations of money and diapers to support those displaced by Hurricane Florence.

“Natural disasters dramatically increase the number of people struggling to access basic needs,” said Michelle Old, Executive Director of DBNC, in a news release. “While disaster relief organizations such as the Red Cross provide vital goods and services, there are no agencies that provide diapers.”

The Durham-based diaper bank is the only statewide diaper bank in North Carolina. Its three branches include a location in the Lower Cape Fear area, which is facing a potentially devastating hit from Florence.

Through its efforts, the Diaper Bank is working to provide disaster relief kits of diapers, feminine hygiene products and adult incontinence supplies. The diaper bank is partnering with state emergency management officials to distribute the kits directly to those in need.

“Populations who are already vulnerable, such as young children, low-income individuals, and the elderly, are especially hard hit by events such as natural disasters,” Old said in the release. “We are pleased to join with NC Emergency Management to bring comfort and dignity during this difficult time.”
