DURHAM, N.C. — Out of their homes for several weeks, dozens of residence from McDougald Terrace housing complex demanded answers Tuesday night at the Durham City Council meeting.

DHA announced at the meeting it is renewing hotel stays on a week-by-week basis, according to Housing Director Anthony Scott. He also said residents will still be out of their homes and in hotels for a couple more weeks. They won't be allowed to return to their homes if they are unsafe.

Durham Mayor Steve Schewel did not have any items on the agenda to discuss the housing complex issues and carbon monoxide concerns. That ended up frustrating residents in attendance.

"I know there are several here who are interested in making comments regarding the situation at Terrace," Schewel said. "That is not on our agenda, it was not on our agenda last week either, two weeks ago."

After demanding to be heard, the council opened the podium to residents. Council members said work is still being done on several units and could be one or even two weeks before people are allowed out of hotels and back into their homes.

"We want answers," McDougald Terrace resident Ashley Canady said. "We are tired of being in hotels on top of hotels on top of hotels. Enough is enough. Durham, enough is enough."
