Payton Wilson, Tez Walker, DeWayne Carter and more are set to make an impact in the NFL. Where you could see them go in the NFL Draft. 

<p>So we've talked about Drake May, we've talked about Graham Barton, we kind of talked about that top five situation. Let's turn now to the rest of the triangle players that we could potentially see drafted. Mark. How do you want to do this? You wanna just kind of, you start to pick a player, I pick a player, we just go back and forth and talk. I think we start with T Walker and then go to Peyton Wilson. I think those would be the top two. Let's start with T Walker though. And I think we'd be speaking about him differently if for the fact that he had played a full season, this is a loaded receiver class. I saw it at the combine. I was in Indianapolis, I saw the receivers work out and I'm looking at it where it's like this guy is a second or a third rounder in terms of the fluidity of movement. Walker was one of those guys, Bryant Thomas out of LSU was one of those guys. And you're like, how would that player not be a first round pick, but that's how loaded this year's class is. And I think it's the prevalence in the emergence of seven on sevens early on in college players career, we see a lot of players recruited Florida, Texas, California. The commonality Lewis is you can train outside year-round. We're seeing more spread style football, three receiver sets, four receiver sets and then to counter that you've got to play nickel packages with five D BS dime packages with six D BS. That's the reason why we're seeing year after year, after year, after year loaded receiver classes. I think T Walker could be one of those guys where we look back on, depending on where he goes and where he gets selected, where we say, how is he not a day one pick? In retrospect, he fits that caliber of player and he did himself a lot of favors with how he performed at the NFL combine. Yeah, the, the speed isn't something you can't teach and that goes so far in the NFL like uh so man, there are so many different receiver rooms that just need someone who can help lift the top off of a defense and offensively like the, the difference between when you can convince safeties to stay back versus when they can play tighter to the box. Um It's huge. So that's always going to be something that's very valuable. T Walker to me screams, you know, day two. The, the one question that people are going to have is his age. Um He's 23 years old, I believe. And, oh, it was so old. Like, that's the normal person and, and pop on that Miami tape, Lewis his coming out party when he had three touchdowns. You talk about the big playability and taking the top off the defenses. I was there in Chapel Hill for that game and it was just like, oh, the Tios are lighting up the scoreboard, strike up the band because they're putting up six yet again. Yes. Yes. They're, they're able to, they're, they're definitely able to, um, you know, put up a lot of points, teams I would assume would be able to, if they get t Walker. Now, I want to turn to defensively here, Peyton Wilson. Um, um, when, when you think of NC State football this year, it's hard to not think of Peyton Wilson just, and, and throughout his career right where he's just someone who's all over the field. His speed is wild. People always refer to that, um, play where he runs down in Notre Dame, running back on the sideline in the NC State, Notre Dame game. Um, there, he's able to play at that speed, it translates onto the field. Um What kind of questions do you have about Peyton Wilson as a prospect? The questions would be the age and the injury concerns earlier on in his career at NC State Louis. But the speed translating, you hit the nail on the head, you hit the nail on the head there because you look at the 40 yard dash time at the combine and you're like, and the explosiveness and it's running down guys for Notre Dame that can run 43 and 44. So if you can get defensive linemen in front of him, that have sound gap responsibility that can maybe even take up two gaps. And then he gets to just chase down ball carriers and run sideline to sideline. That's the reason why he won the Chuck Bednark award and that's given to the nation's best defensive player and why he's among the best defensive players ever in the history of NC state football which, which, and that's a long illustrious history. Yes. Yes. So I see what he brings to the table and his speed and it was not just the film of that. I remember the following Monday, Dave Dorn had his media availability and it told reporters this saying that Peyton Wilson running down that Notre Dame ball carrier was the fastest in the history of the NC State program that they've ever tracked any player. So include skill position players, include D BS receivers running backs and he's the fastest. I don't know how far their tracking goes back. That to me speaks volumes to where it's one thing to perform at the combine and it cut off in shorts, but it's another thing then to say that also translates on the field once you put the pads on Yeah, the, the one way I've heard a lot of, um, just analysts, scouts discuss Peyton Wilson is that he plays like his hair is on fire. Um, which is a huge compliment I think for especially defensive player, a linebacker. Um, one of my questions is gonna be, how does he, how, how does his run, um, stopping ability translate? Um, you know, he is a little bit undersized, um, at that linebacker position. So how does that work? Um, he showed case his pass rushing ability and how he's able to do that at the linebacker position. So I, I do think he's gonna be someone who, like, he's gonna be immediate plus into a team, whatever, whatever team he ends up going to, could definitely see him being day two, early day three at the latest. Um, now a couple of players I want to touch on. Ok, let's stick with the linebacker position here really quick. Cedric Gray who, you know, is, is similar to Peyton Wilson in that just an absolute tackle machine, right? Just constantly leading the UN C, um, defense and tackles. He's, he's someone who like was the only bright spot or for the most part on the UN C defense that has struggled over the past few years. Um, he's someone who I can also see is like a day, two, day, early, day three type, uh, guy who gets drafted. Some of that kind of depends on how teams value the linebacker position. Um, but he's, he's gonna be someone who I think makes an immediate impact on special teams and he can translate to, you know, the actual, um, you know, defense whenever he gets an opportunity, tackle machine, Lewis three consecutive seasons of 100 plus tackles. And remember they play a shorter season in college than they do in the pros. So all over the field and look, I am on record saying that the tar heels at a Swiss Cheese defense at the end of the year because Virginia put up the blueprint wasn't Cedrick Gray's fault. I promise you that in the front seven was not his fault. And look, there's the reason why UN C made the change and said, Gene Chizik, you're no longer gonna be our defense coordinator. You're gonna have a new DC in the 2024 season. But Cedric Gray was that constant for that tar heels defense and the one guy that you could rely upon to always consistently showing up around the football and making plays and he was that guy, three straight 100 tackle seasons in college. I, I, I'd expect that to translate over that. Right. Like it, football put simply it's organized violence but it's block. Can you block, can you tackle and tackling is a strong suit of Cedric Gray? Yeah, exactly. Um, now, who else would you like to talk about here as we continue as we start to round out the I wanna give Dwayne Carter his flowers the three time captain out of Duke. And the reason I say this too is a lot of the same attributes that I mentioned with. Graham Barton is Duke's success. Like look Riley Leonard's gonna get a lot of the praise as the team's quarterback, Riley Leonard's probably gonna be the starter for Notre Dame in the 2024 season. The blue double season was derailed by injuries, not just to Leonard, but Leonard was a big part of that of you start out four. No, and you kind of fall off and then you end up having to go to your third strength quarterback, but Dwayne Carter up front in terms of changing the culture, the mindset of what people think about Duke football. And it's the reason why Mike Elko was sought after as a head coach and it's the reason why Mike Elko is at Texas A and M now, but a three time captain, I thought he represented Duke really well at the AC C kickoff events before the start of the season. But when I think about how did Duke achieve success these last few years, people obsessed with the quarterback position with football, but to me, it's still a line of scrimmage game. And Dwayne Carter was a huge reason why Duke had the turnaround that it had, he, he's got good athleticism, he had good production, you know, playing that kind of defensive tackle position. It's not like he was a sack machine per se, but I don't think that measures, measuring based on those numbers or is the right way to measure him. I, I would, I would say when I look at the triangle prospects, I think Dwayne Carter has the best chance to outplay his drafted position. Like I think he's someone who you can get in the fourth or fifth round and can give you really good value at that position. I mean, he's someone who like, I want my Bengals to draft like we need defensive tackles. Let's, let's do it, let's make it happen. Um I, I think Dwayne Carter has a very bright future in the NFL too. Um, who else are we missing Lewis a couple of other names? I want to throw out here. Um Dylan mcmahon, uh center most likely out of NC state. Um He's someone who could be a late, uh, draft pick. Um Savion Jackson has had from NC State. He had a couple of the defensive lineman has had a couple of, um, visits with the West Coast teams, I believe. Um Shain battle over at state as well. I'm looking at Duke. Um Jayleen Calhoun is someone who I think is really interesting with his punt return ability. Um, and who can be that kind of, you know, possession receiver for a team. Um Al Blades Junior at corner, um, uh Jacob Monk over at Duke as well, an offensive lineman who you think you'll see gold late in the draft if not be a high priority undrafted free agent. Um One other name I wanted to throw here or I guess two more names. One is um Jalen Wright, the running back who could potentially be Tennessee running back could potentially be one of the top player running backs taken in the draft. He's out of Southern Durham. Yep. He, he, he played a Southern Durham so he's a local product. Um And then one other name I want to kind of soap box here for a second is NCCU quarterback Davis Richard. Um just to kind of put some perspective here, right? Um He had nearly 9000 passing yards and, and a little over 2000 rushing yards in his career at NCCU 73 passing touchdowns, 44 rushing touchdowns. Like dude is just a machine from that perspective. He's got the stereotypical prototypical height and weight that you want and a quarterback. Um And you know, he just, he has that speed as well, 45 speed. Um He, so it's, it's kind of actually kind of sad in the, um H BC legacy bowl. He had what looked like a pretty gnarly injury to his leg. Um, after scoring a touchdown, there was some concern there. Uh He told Mia Barry of ancap that he should be good to go by training camp. It was an ankle dislocation. Um but he's kind of, he's been told apparently once again by Mia Barry that the scouts are looking at him as like 1/6 or seventh round pick. He would be the first quarterback selected from an H BC U since 2006. So, and if, if there's gonna be a quarterback, I think to break that stretch, Davis Richard would be the guy. So I, I hope that Davis Richard has an opportunity if I mean, he's gonna get one. It's just a question of does he get drafted or will he be a un uh under the high priority undrafted free agent? Um So it's more of the local names. Really good info there Lewis. I'll go to write of what I know about him is people are gonna salivate over that 40 time. Would I look that is the broad jump in the explosiveness, an 11 ft two inch broad jump and I get with the Tennessee connection. He's drawn some comparisons to another Tennessee running back by the name of Alvin Kamara, I think writes a little bit more explosive in terms of just being a overall athlete. Now, how that translates to the pros and the versatility and how Kamara has been a star player for the Saints. I'm not saying he's Al Kara, but I can understand those comparisons just given what he did at UT and local connection in North Carolina. I running backs devalued Lewis, but I would expect his name to be called at some point in time, day two, day three, I, I almost wish sometimes that the NFL draft was a little earlier in April because I think that it gets very easy for teams to start overthinking things. Um And I think, for example, I don't know if I would pick running back like top five in the draft, but like if it makes sense, do it draft the guys who are gonna make your teams better, but I digress. Duke defensive lineman DeWayne Carter, who participated at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, says he was happy to be a cheerleader for his teammates.

Uh DC, let's start with uh you know, how do you balance the difference of what you have to do here in this pro day compared to all the drills that you had to do and everything you had to go through in the combine, how do you balance what, what, what do you feel like you need to do and what you don't need to do in a pro day? Yeah. So good question. I think for me, it was more, it's like a three step approach, right to this draft process starting mobile um at the senior Bowl and Step two is the draft right in, in India and step three is his pro day and that was kind of like slash chapter of this book. Um for me in the predraft program, obviously, you know, maybe some interviews and stuff like that down the road. But as far as the workout process, this was it and I kind of strategical place that obviously SB just football. But um and for me, my goal is out there, go out there and do everything. So I plan on doing all the tests and everything kinda not goes out the way. So when I get out here, it's kind of, you know, one more ride with the guys. Um come out here test. Well, um do position is really like be more of a cheerleader per se and then obviously handle my business on the back end, which I believe I did. So that's what was kind of my approach going into it. No, go ahead. When I ask Graham, this uh you actually participated obviously in the combine. What did you learn in Indie that you brought with you here to Durham for your pro day today? Yeah. So really, it's a lot and it's really a business venture, right? So just to put in perspective, I got to Indianapolis um that Sunday, I didn't work out to that Thursday, right? So that's a lot of time. So it's the MRI S the X rays, the interviews, the meetings, the kind of walk on my excels all the time. It's like I talked about three step process a little bit, but it's more so it's like you're always on edge in terms of like somebody's always watching you and everybody always says that, you know, I mean, your parents, so you know how it goes. Like your kids, you always tell your kids, somebody's always watching you and that's what you would have felt like. And they're always been evaluated constantly and even going into business meetings, they check everything, they track everything they were asking me about some stuff in high school. Like, it's just, it's just crazy. I have teachers hitting me up, tell me what school or what teachers or coaches came into the school or whatever. It's just crazy. It's a lot of business. Throw you off. No, honestly, a lot of teams are more lax than you would think. It's funny you get a wide spectrum. Uh, sometimes you go in there and it's the hardball route where it's like, oh, sit right here, like my name is whatever, like nice to meet you. And then I had one where I walked in, they threw a mini hoop or basketball at me and told me to shoot three shots. So like it's just, you know, you get a wide range Dwayne, you've put so much into the school. What does this day mean for Duke Football? And what can you say about the future of the program? Yeah, that's a good question. I think it's really representative of like everything we've been through these past five years. I say we like because this is my class, right? We came in June 2019, uh you know, a million years ago, my old guy now, but with our minds set to be kind of the people who change the legacy of Duke Football. And I remember those conversations that we had way back when as 18 year olds and, and I look all 32 represented here, multiple personnels, G MS, assistant G MS coaches just guys here to watch us work, right? Really show like we do have talent here, secure crop. It's not just the basketball school trope like and we produce and I think that's continued to show these past two falls and can't wait to see what they do in the fall. You mentioned, it's like a three step process, right? What, what do you think you've learned between senior bowl combine pro day? Yeah, I mean, you just talk about the business at the end of the day. Football is football. Um I don't care. I says like, obviously it gets a little faster guys might be a little bit bigger or stronger or whatever it is. But football is football. At the end of the day, the game of football is football, but throughout this process, you gotta become a track runner, you gotta become a power lifter, you got to become a drill master, like it's just all these excess things, right? So when we get to go out here and do things like, you know, football drills, hitting b is what I did my whole life. That's what I grew up doing. But football is football and that's what all the advice I've gotten to talk to from, you know, experienced vets and even at the combine like John Randall there, like, are you kidding me? Like John Randall's at the combine like, and he's there, you know, feeding that support us and kind of preaching that same message, football, football at the end of the day. And that's what you're going to do and you're meant to be here, right? Wherever the stage was, you're meant to be here. And that was a common message. So it was pretty cool. You mentioned that you wanted to make sure you were a cheerleader today. Why is that? Why is it so important for you to make sure you were here with those 12 other folks? Yeah. So that's a good question. I think it's because like that's just who we are. And I say we, that is Duke Football, right? That's my team. That's my class. Those are my best friends and that's gonna remain the same throughout the life. Now we're moving to the next stage of life, guys moving on, you know, the next level or whatever it may be. It's just that same chilling mentality, the friendship, the bond that we share doesn't change and to see guys who worked so hard these past 2, 2.5 months to get the way they want to go and, you know, produce what they want to produce out here on the field. I think that's the coolest thing for me, especially because when I was in Indy, it was the same thing. Like all my messages were well outside of, you know, my girlfriend and all that outside of it. It was my teammates first. People calling me texting me the night before checking in. Make sure my mental is ok. Like make sure I'm good, make sure I'm ready to go and then, you know, tell you they're proud of me. It means a lot. You mentioned being a truck star as part of this process. How much David in his workout. Yeah, so Coach Fly, he's very modest and very humble except when he's coaching us, right, in the sense of just being honest all the time, he never say you had any accolades and everything else. But going through the predraft process and the training process, almost every single thing I did was replicable to what we do right here on this field outside in the indoor or whatever it may be. That's what we do and we train, we train, we run, we lived heavy, we run and all the same fundamentals, everything we built were kind of things that I literally did day in and day out for the past 2.5 months. So it's kind of funny. I always, we run in front at least once a week talking about, you know, strategy, stuff like that, about how things are going. And, you know, he's always, he's very hands on. He's a busy man, but he's always on that phone. And a lot of times he's, you know, been relationships taking on people, that's just who he is. He was a great guy, talked about that on edge kind of environment that you experienced in the combine for a lot of these guys out here today. It was their first experience and that I saw you telling some guys relax, take a breath. Was that from that experience that you drew from the combine kind of being used to that? Yeah, 100%. I mean, like I said, football, football at the end of the day and that's what we're essentially doing once you get to the drills, like they were in their forties, they run their shadows out drills, whatever it was. But at the end of the day, football is football like we do this, I knew what type of players they are. I know they're capable of, you know, competing in every single drill that was put on out here today. So today, just relax, take a breath like, you know, it's nothing more than just fans being in the stage or stadium. Excuse me, that's how I kind of view it because I mean, they're gonna tell you nothing good or bad. So it's just about going out there and executing what you do. You got it. Go ahead, go ahead. You got about, you got about uh four more weeks or whatever before the draft gets here. Obviously, you probably have more individual workouts, interviews and things like that to do. But what's gonna be kinda like on your calendar to keep your mind at ease? You know what I mean? And stay relaxed through the, through the final stretch of this process. What are some things that you think you'll be doing? Yeah. So I kind of touched on this a little bit at the beginning of the year actually, way back in the fall and my goal this year was to be where my feet are. All right. So stay focused on the moment, hand, stay present at the moment because I knew how fast this year was gonna go. I knew what all was to come and I knew, you know, how you can get lost in the moment, miss out on these key moments. And I'm like, you know, to be here for a couple more weeks, get to hang out with the guys, be around the lifts, uh work out with coach feel again by choice this time. I don't know why I made that choice. So I'll be around but keeping that same mentality, you know, taking it day by day step by step because uh talking to everybody I talked to said once that call happens or however it happens, it just rolls until about this time next year. So, you know, I'm excited, but that's definitely my, the same thing you where my feet are, when, when the call comes, what's gonna be your preparation for that? Yeah, so I'll be home in Ohio. Yeah, I'm going back to Columbus, uh hanging out the uh parents, uh sister and my girlfriend is sitting there and kind of waiting out and then you know, probably throw a little get together, um, Saturday after the draft. So I say done, but it's kind of been with my people, um, who support me all the way through since I came up. They don't miss any games and that's taken since throughout school. Right. So it's kind of like a big moment for me to really repay them in the sense of they don't ask for anything. But, you know, it's the best I can do at this point. What will it mean to you if your name is one of the really the few that's called one of the draft nights? Yeah. So it's funny, you know, you think about it, you think about how you're gonna react, you try to plan, I'm gonna do this. I I might cry here. So the camera here, you know, like there's silly things like that, but it's funny you really don't know a thing in a moment and, you know, I'm obviously gonna be very excited how I react. I don't know, like it may come out in tears and may come on just like I might jump up and down and do a flip. I don't know, but it'll be definitely very exciting. What's the go to Food at the Carter Family Draft night? That's to be determined. You know, I'm hoping I get one of these sponsorships, you know, you see all these guys talking about. Is it like, maybe certain teams you're hearing? Well, you think might have more interest than you. It's so funny, like this process is so weird, like, early on you talk to a couple of teams and then you don't hear from them for a while, then you are here. What I'm, how many weeks in now? I haven't talked to a certain team. They called me the other day, asked me to come out like it's just different things like that. So, I mean, I've heard from literally all 32 and that's one thing you really can't plan and that's the advice I got from, you know, my counsel and everything else so far is just, you know, you can't really, like, set your mind on one place because really you never know really one pick could change the whole draft and we all know how many quarterbacks there are this year too and they take precedence. So we'll see.

THE NCAA PRESIDENT PROPOSED A NEW TIER OF DIVISION, ONE SCHOOLS WITH THE MOST RESOURCES CAN ACTUALLY OFFER NIL DEALS AND EVEN PAY THEIR ATHLETES DIRECTLY. THIS ELITE LEAGUE OF SCHOOLS THAT HAVE A COUPLE OF RULES LIKE PAYING AT LEAST HALF OF THEIR ATHLETES AND PAYING THEM AT LEAST $30,000. EACH NOW. THAT MIGHT NOT SOUND LIKE ALL THAT MUCH. BUT THINK ABOUT A SCHOOL LIKE TEXAS, A&M A HUGE SCHOOL WITH HUNDREDS OF ATHLETES HAS AT LEAST 10 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR AND AGAIN, CONSIDER THEY JUST PAID A SINGLE FOOTBALL COACH JIMBO FISHER. 75 MILLION BUCKS TO LEAVE. THEY BOUGHT OUT HIS CONTRACT AND FIRED IT. SO PERHAPS THEY CAN FIND AN ADDITIONAL 10 MILLION. I'M SOMEONE THE COUCH CUSHIONS OR SOMETHING AGAIN. SOUNDS LIKE MAYBE THEY MIGHT HAVE THIS ALL FIGURED OUT. BUT AGAIN, THERE'S A HITCH. Yeah, I mean, obviously he's a very good player. Um and very good player. He's a playmaker and those aren't guys are gonna stop. Those are guys are gonna limit, right? And you know, he made some plays, he made a lot of weird body puts and throws t ball throws, you know, a lot of things like you hope would go your way, but unfortunately, it didn't deny and you know, you see the result and what's the message as a, as a leader in the capital? And you get punched, you get up, you get knocked down, you get up again, you get knocked down, you get up again. There is no choice. There is no message. I think that's how we are trained as a team. That's our mentality. That's that grittiness, that's crime mentality we have. So, I mean, that's the message and I don't think I really have to reiterate as much like obviously this one hurts, hurts very much. So, but it's just who we are battered and bruised with injuries. Unfortunate, but in that way that you come here and put together a really good performance is how, how proud of you are you or how proud of your teammates are you? Yeah, let's talk about Grayson Malti. I mean, he did everything he needed to do and some and I mean, I couldn't be any proud of that kid stand up, he never flinch. Us standing, took some hits, took some shots, tucked the ball and ran when he need to kind of receivers. We got guys making plays the perimeter, we got running backs, carrying the ball, carrying defenders for some yards and, you know, they're picking us up all night, I think as a defense, we didn't make enough plays, this new person, I didn't make enough plays tonight as well. Um I didn't capitalize on some opportunities I had, but I mean, you talk about, I mean, that's a prime example of Grayson lous. I mean, you know, everybody is third guy. Um, everybody counts you out. Uh, you come in as underdogs or whatever, doesn't matter. Uh This next tell you there's no excuses in this program and we play with who we have and we all train the same way. So we all have confidence in each other the same way. I knew he was gonna go out there and do what he was supposed to do. Plus we have one of the best staff, if not the best staff in the country preparing them for it. And when you practice against elite players, day in and day out, that's what you produce. So there's no surprise here on how well he played or how, what type of game we put together. Um There was honestly no option. We came here to win the ball game. Can you just speak on just the culture effect, the culture change that coach Uncle has brought to the Duke program, even when you get punched, you punched back, but just put, never, never give up and that you all have ever. Dal. Yeah. So essentially, I mean, talking about, I never gave up mentality. I think that stem from how hard we work. Um We work way too hard and we go through way too much stuff in the off season to not have success. And you know, because Philly and coach, I say like this only gives you a chance to win. Obviously, you have to go out there and execute, make plays and do everything else. But at the end of the day, we work way too hard to not have success. And that's why that hunger comes from. That's where the chip on the shoulder comes from. That's where, you know, just the taste for more. We just want more and more each day. So we try that way in the season as well. So I don't think they'll ever go away anything else for doing.

Big challenge on Saturday night. They have an offensive of 47 points a game. What do you see them on film? What do you guys have to do? So, yeah, I mean, they have elite athletes. Um, they're a good ball team. They play hard, they play for one another and they're well coached. So, you know, it's just another new ball game on this test schedule we got and we try to go down there and play, I think for us, like, it's really not anything special just being who we are and trusting our training because I believe we can compete with anybody in the country. So that's just what we're gonna go down there to do. How, how different is that or is that or what? I mean, personally, for me, um, I like going on the road. I think it's because my first like, ever like big game was on the road as a player here at Duke. So that's kind of the way I'm like, ingrained. But I think as a team, like we're decided to, you know, get away from home a little bit, like we obviously love playing at home, but it's however many games in a row. Plus the bi week, I was like, dang, like, all right, let's go see something new. So I think we're trying to get down there and play. How much experience did you guys gain though? From these big time games that you've played in prime time? Yeah, 100%. So we definitely gained a lot of experience just from the uh confidence standpoint. I think it's more like reinforcing what we already knew about ourselves. But then it's another thing we go out there and actually execute and do it. So I think playing those primetime games we played in this far, like, like I said, just further reinforce our confidence in our ability to go out there and compete if we test that would, hey, you know, I'm old. So, uh I, I don't think I realized how old I am. So, you know, at the beginning of the year I had to really figure out like my routine and what was really gonna work for me and how much extra I had to do to be able to continue to play at a high level and really reach that high level. So obviously, there's a lot more work to be done. But I kind of figured out that routine and the amount of recovery it takes and talk to our training staff. I mean, I like training staff is second to none. They work around the clock for us night and day. So they really helped me out with that. So it's been awesome. I don't know if you see the line or not. I'm sure you guys, but, you know, they're favoring for state by two touchdowns in this. Is there any, you know, uh, feeling of disrespect that kind of comes off that based on what you guys have? And it's an opportunity for you guys to show, you know, there's people out here who still don't believe, you know what you do in a game like this. Yeah, 100% great question. I think that one kind of stems back to, we heard uh Inky Johnson say in the summer, it's more like expectations are external and standards are personal for us. So at the end of the day, we can't worry about, you know, maybe the line or what people are saying what a are saying, like maybe it's not, you know, same old dude because we all the time too, but you can't really worry about that in the day. We know we have, we know the standard that we have to play to the win and we expect to play at that standard no matter who we're against. So no matter what the odds are stacked against us. Like that's how we kind of were trained in this echo area, the underdog mentality with that chip on our shoulder. So honestly, it's nothing new and, and, and the defense that you guys have played in this season. I mean, you guys are up there on top of the rankings and a lot of staff and a lot of categories. Um but this is a challenge right here. You might as well say it's the best, the best challenge that you have with the offense that Florida State is bringing to the table. So, is that something you guys are that is considered a national championship or tender but can get you guys to the champion. Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, we love to compete and we especially love to compete against good offices and good players. So this is another opportunity for us to go out there and compete and you know, continue to prove to ourselves. And like I say, a lot like it's never for us about proving other people wrong, it's all about proving ourselves, right? So knowing what we have in our locker room, knowing the understanding that we can play too and we love ball. And I think the big thing for us is like, we still have yet to play our best football and a lot of people may think like, all right, we may peak, we may do this, but at the end of the day, like we have yet to play our best football. So we should have another step to take, you have to do it up, make seven touchdowns. I think that's, I think that's how do you set up

Yeah, I mean, we rush, uh we were in three down, we rushed three down. I dropped eight and then at the end of the day, it's our job of trying to contain the quarterback and we failed to do so. And Sam Harman is a good quarterback sitting up on his legs and made a play. They got down towards decision, uh when they broke that run on, you guys, were you like thinking they were gonna pass, trying to get a sack out of that? That was going on? No. Can you explain a little bit? But you know how that play worked out? Yeah. So, I mean, we were in, it was basically the same as we been whole game. We were playing the and then me personally had a stone of it and I kind of RPP off kinda on backside. I wasn't able to get him and then he kind of broke the same little minute play was trying to, what was the message at half time if you guys are still in the ball game? Only down 10 points, uh ready. Yeah, I mean, just get back to being who we were. I feel like first half, we didn't really get to show who we were and second half, we kind of show that grittiness, that toughness and everything else. So, you know, it was our plan, second half and fortunately we didn't get it done. So when the leader of this team, how are you kind of pick the guys up and then, yeah, I mean, it's one game, it's so early season. Now, matter of fact, we're going to bi week, we get to go back, self scout, uh, work on ourselves and then go to conference play, hopefully rolling. Do you have any feeling on why the first half was so out of character for you guys? You know, it's just, it's football, you have your days, your good days, your bad days, not everything's gonna be perfect. And, you know, throughout the first part of season, we've been pretty lucky with the football God. So, uh, we probably do for one, but, you know, we're right back in the, getting back to work and working ourselves. How important is it to keep? How important is it? Yeah, I mean, and that's kind of the whole message behind our team like it, you don't put all your in one basket every weekend that doesn't determine the season. So at the end of the day, I won a conference game, uh, we're on a conference play and we like where we are, I think we have a lot of potential. I think we have a ability to run the table. So I'm excited to see what we do when you, you get, you obviously went through so much of your time here. The spotlight of the program. Do you walk away from a game like this feeling like, hey, we really show the world something or do you walk away from it thinking that we missed an opportunity? Yeah, 100%. I feel like it's a little bit of both because, um, we could have won that football game at the end of the day. Um We went out there and showed who we were right. I mean, Duke showed out for us all week. Um, camera crews were here. It was a big TV moment but we never really let the moment get to us. Um We went out there and played hard and that's the biggest thing that I really love about this program. We play hard in and out. We don't flinch and even when we were down bad, like in our, our offense went out there and drove, I think it was 80 yards, but we never flinched. It was never a system and we knew that we were capable of putting points on the board. We knew we could drive the ball and we knew we could stop him. So then the day it was just, that's how we're made. We just, we don't flinch. It. Passionate team, we just play hard no matter circumstance doing the character that you did turn over the night is something they were doing well or something. You weren't doing well enough. I mean, we're trying. So, probably, probably something we didn't do well enough. But then today it's just football, like I was talking about earlier. It's just, it's one of those days, it's one of those days. Did you have an opportunity to talk to Riley after the game? No, I haven't. 01.

Good morning, everybody in the back. You good questions for Dwight D. How are you guys able to shut down that little short? You know. Uh, we were far from perfect. Let's, let's start that off. Uh We were far from perfect, but I think we're really gonna show up when we go back and watch the tape and we show tonight. Is that how hard we play? Right? And how much we love one another and how much we care about this game. And ultimately, I was able to keep us. So we get on the red zone. We're kind of getting down down the field bound down the field. The red zone is relentless that don't break mentality kind of showed up. That's obviously not what you want to do, but it showed up and we were able to pull it off. So it was pretty cool when you've been here through some really tough years. Did you ever imagine that you'd be in a situation? Students storm in the field like this. No, honestly, no. But, um, it's funny, it's funny how things happen when you wait it out and when you know where you're supposed to be. And I believe when I committed here, um, where I was supposed to be, I committed to the school, I committed to a great staff that we had previous. And luckily enough we able to get a really good staff coming as well right behind him. So I believe you follow God's plan for you. Um, it's divine time and whatever it is and, you know, it might have been a long game. You know, I might have liked to have a couple more wins on the front end, but it's a good start to the year. We got to live more. You gotta ask you about, he plays down the stretch chief among them. That monster is a dog. I mean, since we got here, the kid is every bit of 56, right? 1 80. But he might be the hardest hitter on the field. He's one of the hardest workers on the team. He's one of the strongest, one of the fastest and he knows how to play the game of football, right? And he cares, that's a kid who cares more about this game about this team and a lot of guys on this team, right? And he puts on everything and he's always around the ball. That's why he shows up. That's why I can turn kicks. That's why he can do everything he can do because he took the care for his team and he's a good fit. It's like kind of, I guess we say he's one of the definitions of our program. It's one of him. This is a bit of a statement game for you guys. How many do you see it that way? Yeah, I mean, we knew we could win. I mean, you don't come in the week preparing to lose, right? Uh We accomplished ourselves. We knew prepared. And uh one thing about our team is we worry about us, um expectations, projections like those are external and our standards are personal to us. And we know what our standard is. We know we can be and we know we have in this building and we know the type of staff we have, we know we have the type of players we have as well. So at the end of the day, I believe we can compete with anybody. And that's the, I said, you should have, you set expectations, you guys will likely be ranked this week. You're gonna be dealing with some different stuff. How do you keep humble and just keep moving forward? Yeah. Uh So, like I said, expectations are internal, right? So we don't really focus on external. Um If we get we ranked, whether we're not ranked, it doesn't really matter. Uh We'll focus on next week and that is what matters. Uh We just play this game week by week and that's how coach kind of runs the program. That's the blueprint to our program and it's not gonna change because of where I win was really, really hot. I was running for ball fan today about a seven minute time a advantage. Just talk about the ability of your day kids to withstand all of that and keep my Yeah, I mean, you know, we work out in the summer and train too. We condition too. So, um it's about at the end of the day who want and more on that field, right? So nowadays in the day, modern, modern college football skiing is no huddle, hurry up tempo, shotgun spread. You gotta be for whoever runs it. At the end of the day, we train all off season to withstand those offices and excel for a defense when playing and stuff like that. So at the end of the day, it was just excuse me, at the end of the day, it was um another day business for us was just the most happy to the locker room after a win or probably 100% it was. And, you know, it's just because we know how much went into it, right? And you talk about we don't really focus on expectations, right? And we're not happy because we prove people wrong, right. We're happy because we proved ourselves right. And that's a big thing for us. You know, we're kind of a better heavy team this year. A lot of guys have been through a lot of stuff over these past couple of years. Um Some new guys came in, went through stuff in their own universities. Um It's just, you know, good to get a win, right. And show that your hard work goes somewhere so that they go to waste those guys. I do wanna ask you about three guys in the secondary, the, the transfers that came in that especially Jeremiah from back at the very end of start camp here, right. What difference have they made for you guys? Like, yeah, I mean, they're both players. So our m showed up um in the spring and they fit right in. I mean, we hang out together from the jump, um invite us over whatever it may be like they feel right and they jump right in and that's one thing about our team. It is a lot of good people and good character, high character, good people is a part of our program, right? And if you do not have that character, you will not fit in. Now, we're gonna run you out of there, but you're gonna run yourself out of there, especially as how it goes. So they good people, they feel right in and Jay, I mean that our teammate, so he's been our teammate, right? So him coming back is just pretty cool to have him back for us last year playing the school board, speaks for itself. But at what point of the game did you guys realize as a team that you were that much better than Clemson coming. We have our own opinions or whatever. But I, I wanna know from a player perspective when you guys realize like Clemson is not all that. They were hyped up. Yeah, I mean, our mind says one drive at a time and that's essentially what it is. It wasn't like, all right, we gotta win this quarter, win this quarter, whatever. It's one drive at a time, go out there and win, He's driving right. So we don't really, until it, whoever I forget what the last touchdown I feel bad. Maybe whoever scored the last touchdown. That's when it was kind of like, alright, I can breathe a little bit like kind of get out of here and then go out and play a couple minutes defense. But the end of the day, like we were locked in into that three minute mark, right? It's hard but the stands, they're behind you, calling your name trying to look around you. But at the end of the day we were locked in. That's just another mo of our team. What was your view of to with my view? Um I saw the replay so I, I was on the binge breathing actually. Right. So that was really, really hard. I look up and Riley gets to rumble and I'm like, all right, and I just hear a crowd noise. I'm like, all right, maybe at the first time and then you hear noise, noise. I'm like, oh, he's like you look at replay for sure enough, broke a tackle slips, guys holding blocks. I think Nicky had a guy gloved up about five yards on the field, rose leading up the field like it was just, it was just fun to see on the replay, but I missed the initial, the initial run. Yeah we got it we're good Almost popped it off Got this victory I don't even have any words that says everything right there the love we have for one another Like this team is like no other I'm so proud to be a party So happy for the guy Yeah I mean it's great to end the way how we started right We had a big challenge coming out week one trying to make our identity No they didn't know who was gonna be this year as a team and there's no better way to a very talented team had for them to play very hard  But I'm so happy we got at home Yeah to be honest no man I've been at home in the past three years now I'm a senior in college We just won our first one of my first one ever been to I mean it's unbelievable to send my seniors out I came in together with the championship like I mean I can't even describe I'm so excited so happy for the guys you guys how do you put it into words Yeah So I mean I d smith and our culture on defense is smart for tackling and ball disruption and in the white room really trained us as such I mean our physicality is the first and foremost like you can start physical you're not gonna play on the defense team So I mean it's just awesome to see if we start to our culture all year obviously you know we like to have a couple of losses back but I mean in this way it's it's just it's awesome Yeah To be here right now What does it mean It means the world you know and honestly like it's pretty cool feeling because you know there's a lot of internet trolls that can't go back to say it's all for nothing Right So you know I mean it's all fun and games But at the end of the day we're working we're working very hard and I was just kind of a glimpse into it So it's awesome I can't wait to come back and do it all again Yeah What does it say about this I mean he is a man of his word He's a man of his creed He lives his creed cause Yoko came in day one and never wavered He's really one of the only head coaches at one of our positions pointed out like he get in front of room He never doesn't know what to say He always knows what to say He knows what he tells he knows how to treat it And most brother he loves his game he loves his games and he loves us and we felt that every single day across the board from the staff So that was awesome because I mean you kind of look back we released a hype video last night and you know there were times when somebody eating a hot dog they say this they say that and like we always say we don't listen to the noise we just went to work and did our thing and I'm just so proud and happy for him

if you think about it, I mean it's two different staffs or different, two different approaches of course. But at the end of the day, like the base is the same, right? It's just, there's just so much more emphasis on doing your job, playing a team like wake and the offense that they have. Because like I said earlier, if you jump out that gap that can go from a three yard game to 100 yard touchdown in two seconds, baby, go ahead. What's going on? Dwayne appreciate you taking the time as always brother. Um, I want to keep it on the football theme in regards to this rivalry with Wake Forest. Um, in my opinion, you know, I've been here for a while. So I consider any time that any of the big four go up against each other. It's a rivalry game and you know, you can like rank them however you want to, but you can, you, can, you specify how you feel about the Wake Forest Duke rivalry? Like what does this specific rivalry in this state mean to you? Yes. I mean, great question. It's funny cause I'm a kid from Ohio. So my rivalry growing up with a high state michigan that was like the rivalry to me. And then coming down here, I didn't realize how big the Carolina duke rivalry was and then we wouldn't play state. I didn't realize how big that rivalry was and then we play week, I didn't realize how big that robbery was. So I mean the tensions are always high and kind of battle for bragging rights around the triangle. I mean every time we get to play with their team that plays hard, they're kind of academically, they're similar to us as well. So it's kind of the same. A lot, a lot of the same type of kids. I mean you just have the same type of athletes are hard workers, a lot of effort guys. I mean it's just, it's the intentions are high, emotions are high. It's, it's fun to play in a game like that. Yeah, I got one more question for you about the progress the defense has made throughout the season, particularly the last couple of weeks you held take the seven points you guys got a lot of three and outs against against, especially late to give you a chance to come back. So what, what would you say has been like the biggest improvement that you've seen in the group from the season? Yes. I mean I'm kind of sick to the same script that I've stuck to all year. It's just think about our foundation and kind of our culture. We wanted to be at the beginning here and how we've kind of stuck to it no matter the adversity, no matter to score the game is just kind of stuck to who we are as a team and like I said, that's building the offseason that's built through the spring balls that's built through the workouts, it's just sticking the identity no matter what happens and then always betting on yourself. Um throughout this season, you know, your first year as a starter, you've had a lot of experiences, good and bad adversity, that kind of thing. What did you take from saturday from from playing in those conditions? Uh Playing from behind? What did you learn from that? You'll use going forward? Yeah, the biggest thing I learned was uh my mentality and my um my energy kind of controls the game. So I started off pretty slow um wasn't talking talking a lot and bringing the energy until really the fourth quarter and uh whenever I start bringing the energy and playing freely, having fun, that's when things start to get rolling. Uh So I gotta do a better job of the leadership aspect um and being consistent all throughout the game. Mr Sumner. Hey, really good morning. Just good to see you again. Um I want to ask you about the Wake Forest game. Obviously they can put a lot of points on the board. One of the ways to keep the team, put a lot of points on the board is to keep them on the sidelines. So what does Duke have to do to reinvigorate the running game and sustain some, some long drives that keep Sam Hartman comparing these guys on the sideline. Yeah. Coach also talked about that this morning and it just comes down to uh, efficiency. So each play, uh, getting staying above the change, whether it's a 34 yard game, um, complete passes, complete execute on third downs especially. Um, and just saying about the chains efficient efficiency is something that we kind of struggled with whenever we start to get drives going. We tend to do pretty well, but sometimes we'll go three and out. So as a quarterback, my emphasis this week is controlling the game and controlling the snap out of time to say about the chance, let me ask you about your buddy Jordan more. He, he had a historic game up in pip, particularly historic considering the conditions. Um, just talked about his development. I know you guys are tight. Well, did you have any idea back in back in august when he was moved to wide receiver that he had that kind of potential in him and you're gonna be throwing the ball to him for the next next couple of years. I mean, what does that look like? Right? Yeah. I was fully aware whenever you're competing against a guy like that at quarterback, sometimes you sit back and like you're thinking like she's like this, she's making highs and plays every day at practice. How am I gonna beat him out? Uh, So I, I fully knew what he was capable of the kid, you know, you could play any position on the field and be great at it. So um yeah, there was no shocker to see him make the plays that he's been making. I mean, just throwing throwing the ball after practice and stuff, you see the athleticism uh so fortunate enough, you know, he's in my class, so we'll be playing together for a couple more years and uh I couldn't be more excited throwing the ball. Connor, go ahead Riley at risk of asking something completely obvious. Like, what's the biggest motivation going into this game? Is it getting to eight wins instead of seven? Is it being three and one in november, is it just flat out finishing strong to end the regular season? Yeah, my motivation just comes off, you know, the blatant disrespect that we've been, you know, kind of given this year, especially at the start of the year, so to end the end the year with a win against a team like Wake, I think it will kind of set a statement and and really prove where this program is becoming uh we lost, I mean, we lost some games that we really should have won, but at the end of the day, it's still an l in the uh you know, on on our schedule. Um So to get a win and get a w on the board, it'll really set a set a statement to everybody that doubted us. It's not the first time this year that you've brought up the disrespect aspect of things. Is this something that you actively look for or do people pointed out to you more often than you find it yourself? Yeah, no, I don't really look for it. But uh, I think it's pretty funny whenever somebody come up to me and tell me what somebody said, but now I don't really look for it. Um one of my teammates comes up and tells me something funny that somebody said about me or the team, You know, I don't mind hearing it. Like Riley, Leonard, worst quarterback in the sec, josh. Go ahead. Hey Riley. Really? For the first time this season, you were not able to get going on the ground from your position, you rank top five nationally and running the football at the quarterback position, you had the wind, the weather, the pass rush, everything and you were still able to throw for 290 yards, three touchdowns, no picks. Can you talk about your mindset when you can't get your run game going, which seems sometimes to wake you up and get you rolling early in the game. Can you talk about how you battle through that and still put up the numbers even in the loss Saturday? Yeah, I think that just comes down to taking what the defense gives me and just having confidence in my game. I don't think that there's a play that I can't make, not to sound cocky, but if you know, I need to run the ball for 100 plus yards or I need to throw the ball for 200 plus yards. I don't think that anything is going to restrict me from doing doing so. Um defense had pits defense, had a great game plan against me uh in the running game. They really did a good job. But luckily enough, you know, I had receivers that when I made some place. So uh, my coach and I kind of talked about it. I don't think the defense can be right when playing against our offense. So yeah, yeah. One follow up to that, someone, we had already mentioned the gym, asked about Jordan more. Can you talk really quick about that one catch on the sideline was initially called incomplete. Did you see it complete all the way through or were you even surprised after the, after it was reversed? Well when I threw the ball, I'm thinking like, alright, this ball is going out of bounds, there's no chance you can catch it. Uh but sure enough, Jordan more once again, you know, proves everybody wrong and goes up there and catch it one hand. I didn't see the foot go down. I have no idea how he did it, but uh, I definitely gave him a tap on the butt afterwards and so I appreciate you. Thanks really thank you. Hey Riley appreciate you taking out the time. Um I know individual players don't like to talk about individual matchups but you know the A. C. C. Has always been stacked with a lot of good quarterbacks and uh I'm curious to know like how do you feel going into this match up against Sam Hartman and and and and the quarterback matchup with this game? Uh You know all the numbers that he's put up on his side and you being that up and coming guy in the conference. Um Have you thought about that at all and and and how do you feel about this match up against other quarterback? Yeah I've really thought too much about it uh in the aspect of like me versus him. But you know he's a guy that I respect a lot. Uh They recently came up came out with a little documentary on him about everything that he had been through. You know I respected a lot uh for him to have to go through what he went through in high school and then you know, being told before the season that he may never play again. Uh Some might you know don't take for granted and and he he taught me a lot of lessons through that and you know how he carried himself but you know individually like the narrative of me versus him. Um You know it's pretty cool to be on a stage with a guy like that. Um, and all the records that he's broken, but you know, I'm gonna come out there and compete and you know, when I get out on that field, I probably won't think too much about it until after the game, appreciate your happy thanksgiving to you chris you wanna Yeah, sure last year this time you guys were three and eight getting ready to welcome Miami uh, into else wade do you? And now you're looking at possibly, you know, eight wins bowl eligible already. Do you look back and see just how far that you all have come? Especially wins and losses and with team turn around at all. Yeah, I look back a little bit on it. Um, but you know, I'm never really, like, I'm, I, I say this a lot, but I'm never really satisfied. So most of the time I look back, I'm, I'm kind of just thinking about what we could have done better. I don't think that we should have as many losses as we have. Um, that's just me. So, uh, you know, very grateful for for where we're at and you know, the amount of winds that we've gotten, I think we left something on the table though, I got a couple of non football questions here actually, I don't think too much about this when I ask them first and foremost ham or Turkey for thanksgiving got to go to Turkey just because of everything that comes behind it. Duke QB Riley Leonard and DT DeWayne Carter speak ahead of Saturday's game against Wake Forest

Duke defensive tackle DeWayne Carter spoke with media members on Thursday at the 2022 ACC Kickoff event.

<p>Tommy, Dwayne, you led the conference in four samples this past season. What steps are you taking to the offseason, keep that up and improve upon that number. Yeah. So good things happen when you're forming the ball. So it's kind of like the cultural trying to create here at Duke. So kind of talks in our foundation weight room. So one thing we do specifically is when we finish our warm up drills, conditioning, whatever it is, if you don't finish at least two yards behind the line, going back and do it again because that's the standard we want to create. So a lot of times, like we talked about forced fumbles and turnovers and things that nature, it just comes from extra effort on the field. So that's kind of where we're starting at. So right in front of him, Dwayne, wayne, dan tortora, wake up call DT dot com coach Elko coming into this program, like he was talking about about eight months ago. What have you seen as far as the positive difference thus far? Yeah, I mean it's been, it's been a lot of positive change and honestly the biggest thing and worried for me being a uh in the program now was kind of like how the transition's gonna go, right. So it's been very smooth. We've laid a good foundation, most importantly, best positive changes. It's really like a player coach relationship partnership almost. So I guess part of like we're working together, like she said, we just got into being the head coach was eight months ago. So we're working together will work best for this program. We're going to do to win and how most importantly we can be successful on and off the field Going to your right the 3rd row. A royal how Carolina blitz. Can you just speak on implementing the freshman within a new program that you guys will not be having a losing mentality, losing attitude and mediocrity is just not acceptable. You just speak on it please. Yeah most definitely. So I mean it's kind of easier this year because of the whole new staff. Right? So we're kind of all freshmen in the sense that it's a new program. It's a new campus new style plays a new defense new scheme so it's kind of worrying it altogether which you before you know you know what to expect as an older guy coming in you know how things go. So we're all learning together. So the freshman kind of they're engaged, they're excited And most importantly just can't wait to get up. I can't wait to get out there on the field between a question here from the podium. You are academic all a. C. C. Last year. So what's the secret in blending academics and athletics? Yeah so really it's about your priorities. It's about your priorities. So I mean timing and of course plays a huge role but you got to prioritize what you can. So as a student athletes especially football student athletes we have meetings. Mhm film watching. I mean we have a numerous but also in the day you get to go home, you gotta make it part because you can hop on the video game or you can take your naps, but you gotta get your homework in there at some point. So it kind of goes to my home background as well. My mom always told me you gotta have it up here as well as on the field. So that's kind of where they stand from, also hear from the podium. We always know it's one game at a time. But how far into a schedule do you look at a season to get your mind straight in terms of like this opponent? Alright, so as far as, I mean really, we're taking one week at a time. That's cliche, that's the basic answer. But in order to be successful, you gotta take it one game at a time because if you're overlooking opponents, they'll sneak up on you if you're under looking upon the same thing and you want me as a test that you can. So you gotta put your all into preparation for each week, one week at a time. Thank you other questions for going from the floor. I like to claim that I'm self taught. Honestly, I watch a lot of videos, you know, I'm a big tip top guy. So I've always been a dancing type of person. My parents, they can move a little bit. My dad will claim that he's the best dancer in the house, but unfortunately that's not true. Maybe back in the day, but you know, I think I'm more self taught than anything. Thank you. What is it off the field that you do to keep that camaraderie because when there's a coaching change, obviously that family has to stay strong and stay together. So how does dude have fun? Yes, I mean how we have fun. So we're a stereotypical family, right? So we all have our role, We have class clowns, we have this, we have that, but a lot of times our relationship building is just basically in a lot of them after workouts, right? So you finish a hard run and there's like 10 guys laying on the floor and the guys are laughing because some guys had a better day than others and things of that nature. So family good and we play a lot of video games, we hang out places, we just really just being in her presence and that's the best way and the best thing you can give somebody is your time and that's the best way to get to know somebody question from right behind him. Uh, Justin jones Caroline, join, you represented Duke and the A. C. C. And on the football oversight committee, student athlete connection group. And in your opinion, what do you think is the most pressing issue facing N. C. A. Football, both on the player level and on the institution? So that's a great question. I mean, obviously a lot of the big topics right now R. N. I. L. And how there's not really a specific legislation. So that's a lot of our compositions about legislation. But of course we talked about different practice rules and our biggest goal like role in that committee is to speak on behalf of the players. Right? So if we think like maybe extra practices, so it's beneficial for extra day in camp and things of that nature. So there's not really one overarching issue, but the issue that we talk legislation</p>

Good morning. Thank you for joining us. We use the various hand function and we'll get started with questions. Steve, go ahead. Thanks. Hey Dwayne? Um, you know, tough loss there. I mean, can you just take us through that last drive that you're telling the feel of a chance to win the game and stop them and they end up being the touchdown. Just kind of what happened on that plane, How you feel about it. Yeah. You know, so honestly, I don't really remember much because we're in that situation and it's kind of fight or flight mode. You get your assignment and then you're just locking on what you gotta do. So, I mean, we got off the ball a little bit, ran a little game, unfortunately didn't work out. Quarterback made a throw, receiving, made a play and it's unfortunate tom Shanahan. Well, you know, last week, you guys did not match up with north Carolina, but this week you could have won the game, you left points on the board. How do you guys feel about the rest of the SCC's season and winning some games? Yes. I mean the sec, probably the most crazy conference in all of college football set up and down left and right. Whatever you want to say. So I mean, knowing it's a tough loss, but you gotta look ahead each week because everyone is going to be a battle weekend and week out and we know that we're playing a conference of quarterback. So we're gonna have a talented spearhead of the offense every single week. So new challenge every single week, but we're going to take it all the same start, Gibson doing, how do you rally the guys after this one? Because that was that was that was a really shocking loss right there towards the end. Yeah, for sure. I mean, that really starts with the culture and you look back to January, February two something. Thank you Bill and were built for this. So, I mean, great toughness, heart, resiliency and most importantly, love for the game. I mean, we love to play the game, we love to come here and go to work every single week. So I don't think I'll be hard to write the guys because we just look ahead of next week with our 24 hour room campos. Yeah, when you guys had a couple of really great moments towards the end of the first half and then getting a couple sex there in the fourth quarter, um one of those last drive, So I just wanted to, wanted to ask you, what do you, what do you guys think you need to do to keep those kind of moments up throughout the game. Yeah, 100%. So, I mean it's kind of becoming a bad habit but consistency. I said this, I feel like every single week, consistency, consistency, consistency on both sides of ball kicking game everywhere else because we have the talent, we have the skill and it's very evident at time, but also we look like the bad news bears at a lot of times two. So consistency is what we have to continue to develop and work on. Mhm Uh huh. Mhm Right. Dwayne, I know the locker and probably disappointed right now, but if you could just give us a snapshot of what's going on in there for you guys, I know this one is probably pretty tough to swallow. I'm sorry you said in the locker room. Yeah. Yes. I mean obviously it's tough after loss. You come in, hold it together as one coast cut you to spend talk, you go to your, your position coaches, they talk to you as well, but mainly keep your head up because there's always next week coach Hopper says that every single week win or loss, some will always come up and we'll have to find another day. um, I first want to talk to you about the play in the fourth quarter when you forced a fumble. Um you had to run a long way to get a quarterback, got through the line, had a pretty decent game, but you came a long way and got that trouble is what were you thinking on that play and to go that far and make that play. So first, I mean it goes back to culture, something we've been building the off season in the summer is attitude and effort and that's actually something my father tells me before every single game control we control and that's your attitude and effort. So I mean, that's something that I pride myself on being a hustle player and as well as I had mental flashback as well, my junior high school, it was a similar play, they ran a mess concept behind me and I kind of just seen it or solid, excuse me and turn around, do the same thing doing max rago Hey Dwayne. Um, so yeah, just quick, quick thing going off that with that fumble late in the fourth quarter, you know, you guys seemingly needed to play. So how does, how does it feel to be able to step up for your team in a, in a situation where you kind of need, you need something to be able to close that game out. No, I feel great. I mean, to play itself, it felt it felt awesome, not gonna lie, I feel great, but I mean, the biggest thing for me was coming back to the sideline and seeing guys jumping up and down, coaches jumping up and down, trainers jumping up and down the sideline, I can, I'm able to look up and my parents in the stands this year, see my mom going crazy. I wouldn't be, I mean shocked that she wasn't crying. So I mean that's just her thing. So I may just meant the world to me to see that I can make the impact on so many people, Nathan raghu Nathan. Yeah. Hello Dwayne. Uh, I'm just a little curious during the first half, the Duke defense seemed pretty strong to start the second half. It seemed like there's a little bit of a struggle early on when Andrew marty came in for the Wildcats. I was just wondering your take on that. Uh, what about his game? Kind of made it difficult early on in that second half. Yeah, so I mean he was a good player and they made their adjustments at the second half and it seemed like they were just coming at us, which I feel like in the first half, their more sitting back and a lot of water and a little bit run different speed routes, I mean runs it outside and the second half, they were all coming downhill and we come out a little flat and I honestly attribute that to our youth because we are three games in now. I mean we're young defense still so we got to know, we gotta keep their foot or keep our foot on their necks and keep going, no matter what the score is. So royal Hotel. Oh man, quick question. I wanted to know the Duke defense came into this contest with zero turnovers on the season. You guys have five turnovers in the ball game. Can you just speak on the five turnovers and what is it gonna take for due to take the next step versus Kansas next Saturday four pm here? Yeah, so for sure. I mean, so well I know it was five. That's pretty cool. Um, Excuse me. But I mean that was the emphasis for us this week. We came into Tuesday morning first practice week and the coaches told us strip and hit stripping, stripping, hit. So we worked, um, oh, DB drills, working on getting the ball out, peanut punches, pulls, whatever it is, that was the main emphasis for practice this week. So every guy knew their task and we knew that our defense styles and get off attack, a tax style defense, so no turnovers through two games is not our style of defense. So that was a big emphasis, like I said it before and it's just cool to see it work out that because of how hard we worked in practice. No, jim Sumner. Hey Dwayne, uh, Northwest and made a quarterback changed like the first definitely seem to spark their offense was, did money bring something different to the table than johnson, Was it just a, just a case of better execution? Yes sir. Um, honestly, when you look at the game plan, like I was talking about earlier with my teammates actually when they made the quarterbacks, which we came back in my mind, they all went through the same game plan, They all prepared the same, but I will say marty, I feel like executed better and he seemed like he was more of a hard nose kid. He wasn't afraid to duck his head and just run through the middle and everything else. So we had to adjust our game and luckily it worked out, Oh, Shanahan Dwayne the first couple of weeks, the defensive lineman talked about how you guys will get better with experience. Talk about what kind of progress you feel good about in this third game. Yeah. So, um, I feel like in progress this week with more about comfort ability. Everybody seemed comfortable out there, Everybody's playing their game and everybody just let it all go and left everything on the field. I mean guys in the backfield just harassing the quarterback all day having plays when they try to run the ball screens were running all over the field. I mean, it's just good to see guys comfortable because I feel like this year, for me personally, is the first time I've been
