RALEIGH, N.C. — A discussion for a massive project for Raleigh's North Hills wrapped up on Tuesday evening. Developers with Kane Realty are proposing three new skyscrapers, two up to 40 stories and another up to 30 stories tall.

However, for the plan to take flight, the area would have to be rezoned.

Kane Realty is asking the city to rezone three parts of the North Hills shopping area, allowing 40-story buildings on the parking lots along Six Forks Road. The corner facing the Interstate 440 at Lassiter Mill could go up to 30 stories.

Crews are already building buildings that could reach 10 and 12 stories across the street where the old JC Penney stood.

If approved, Kane Realty says it would provide $9 million in property taxes to the city.

Developers said the proposal includes land dedicated for a bus transit, a new fire station and protected bikeways.

But some against the plan said it doesn’t include any affordable housing.

"This case isn't ready to be approved, or at least not to get my support," said Raleigh City Councilman Patrick Buffkin.

"I think we've got some work to do."

Kane Realty will come back on Aug. 16 with additions to the proposal.
