FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives charged a Fayetteville man on Monday with sexually molesting an 11-year-old girl.
James David Parris, 39, of 4825 Backbay Road, surrendered to law enforcement officials.

Detectives said they began investigating Parris after a relative of the victim reported the alleged crime.

Parris allegedly arranged “cuddle time” with his victim and touched her inappropriately, detectives said. The offenses allegedly happened in June.

Authorities charged Parris with first-degree statutory sex offense, taking indecent liberties with a minor and committing sexual acts by a substitute parent. More charges were pending, they said.

Authorities held him in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the detention center courtroom.
