Deputies: Employee at assisted living facility charged over $2K to patient's credit card

An employee at an assisted living facility in Chatham County was arrested last week after authorities said she stole a patient's credit card.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — An employee at an assisted living facility in Chatham County was arrested last week after authorities said she stole a patient’s credit card.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said a resident at Chatham Ridge Assisted Living reported multiple fraudulent charges on their account last month.

Surveillance video showed employee Kelly Stella Maranje Odima, 30, of 401 N.C. Highway 50 in Carrboro, racking up nearly $2,800 in charges at multiple Walmart locations.

Odima is charged with felony exploitation of the elderly, felony financial card fraud, felony obtaining property by false pretenses, felony identify theft and felony possession of stolen property.

Odima was being held under $5,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 16.
