FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities are investigating after a man was shot early Monday morning in Cumberland County.

Deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a home in the 900 block of Sara Lane at about 1:10 a.m. and found 35-year-old Brandon Stellone with a gunshot wound to his left side.

Stellone told deputies that three men attempted to break into his home and he was shot when he went outside to confront them, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspects fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Stellone was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital, where doctors discovered he had also been shot in the ankle.

Authorities said Stellone was not cooperative with detectives and said he did not want the incident investigated.
