Deputies accuse health aide of taking $13,000 from elderly couple

Tarboro, N.C. — Authorities have accused a North Carolina woman of stealing $13,000 from the elderly couple she was supposed to care for.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said Nekeya Denise Jenkins was hired on May 26, and in less than a month had stolen the couple's personal checks and debit cards.
The sheriff's office said the husband has since died due to medical issues.
Jenkins, 36, of 905 Macon St. in Wilson, was charged with two counts each of financial card fraud and obtaining property by false pretense and one count each of exploit elder, identity theft and larceny by an employee. She was being held in the Edgecombe County jail under a $40,000 bond.
