Death sentence sought for suspect in death of Applebee's manager

Halifax County prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against the suspect in the slaying of a restaurant manager.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Halifax County prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against the suspect in the slaying of a restaurant manager.

Joshua Lindell Rouse, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 15 death of Sandy Denise Riedel.

Riedel, 29, was found stabbed to death inside an Applebee's in Roanoke Rapids. Police said Rouse, a former Applebee's employee, stole money from the restaurant after the slaying.

No trial date has been set.
