SANFORD, N.C. — Lee County prosecutors said Monday that they plan to seek the death penalty against a Sanford woman charged with killing a 3-year-old boy in her care.

Ebony Lashaun Watson, 24, was charged in September 2008 with murder, felony assault inflicting serious injury and felony child abuse.

The boy, whose name was never released, suffered massive internal injuries that were the result of an assault, police said.

Watson was the girlfriend of the boy's father, Eddie Pugh, and she was left in charge of the child. Pugh, Watson and the boy lived at the Regal Inn, at 3200 Jefferson Highway.
