RALEIGH, N.C. — The latest numbers from the state show which North Carolina public employee departments have the highest and lowest vaccination rates among workers.

The North Carolina Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) is reporting that 62 percent of all adults in the state are fully vaccinated. That figure includes those age 65 and older, a group that carries a high vaccination rate overall but represents a small part of the workforce.

The state's data is based on about 59,000 permanent and temporary workers currently employed by Cabinet agencies.

The North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management had the highest percentage of vaccinated employees (91 percent) among the agencies listed. The Department of Public Safety had the lowest rate at 53 percent.

The Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Administration both checked in at 81 percent. The OSHR had an 85 percent rate.

  • Department of Environmental Quality - 81 percent
  • Department of Information Technology - 77 percent
  • Department of Military and Veterans Affairs - 82 percent
  • Department of Natural and Cultural Resources - 57 percent
  • Department of Administration - 81 percent
  • Department of Revenue - 79 percent
  • Department of Transport - 60 percent
  • Department of Public Safety - 53 percent
  • Department of Public Safety State Bureau of Investigation - 77 percent
  • Office of State Budget and Management - 91 percent
  • Office of State Human Resources - 85 percent

"These rates are a snapshot in time based on available data and will change as more vaccination records are validated by the agencies, as well as more employees become vaccinated and submit their records," said state spokesperson Jill Lucas.

The data did not include figures from the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Commerce.
