MANNS HARBOR, N.C. — A California man trying to drive into Dare County fell victim to the county's coronavirus-related travel restrictions and, during his traffic stop, was busted for drugs.

David Warren Raney, 61, of Willow Creek, Calif., was stopped at the Manns Harbor Check Point on Saturday. All vehicles entering the county are stopped and checked to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Sheriff's deputies smelled an odor of marijuana coming from Raney's vehicle, and, in a search, found 13 pounds of marijuana, along with some cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstasy and LSD.

Raney was charged with trafficking in marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. He was being held on a $20,000 secured bond.
