Uh and obviously the emotional tie into it with Damar Hamlin. What had happened last monday night, Darren Hynes is joining us now on the easter automotive group. He is nine times. Father Darren, how are you? Thanks for joining us. So you were you were in buffalo for to watch your son play? How was that your first time up watching, watching up in Buffalo? Uh Okay, okay, okay. So what's go kind of as you know from from a father's perspective, what's going through your head with that first touchdown and then the second one after that, um believe it or not, we were I was over his house, saturday night and he was actually going for a punt trying to get 30 yards of planting and keep his average up and he said, well dad, something's got to come back tomorrow and I was like okay, and so I'm looking for the punt and you know, they kick off and boom. And so uh I got excited. Um so I was actually sitting um um mr duel with the other player, dual the offensive tackle. I was sitting in front of or behind his father rather and we got to talking and I said uh Mr Doyle, you're not gonna believe this, but when he starts off this fast, he's usually gonna do it again. He probably didn't believe me, Probably looked at me a little crazy and when he did it, he says, man, you know your son, he says you called that one. So you know, um, it's just uh, it was, it was a store moment for me to see that especially with all the tragedy early in the week. I was gonna say Darren, like I coached my oldest son at the Avery Street center over there basketball and he had a steal and a layup at the end of one game when he was like nine years old, my heart was through my chest. The Nightmare is making NFL history on Sunday after the tomorrow Hamlin, you know, cardiac arrest after everything. The NFL basically shut down and for that play with all eyes on him. Uh you just had to and I know he's 26 now but still still, I mean that that had to be something for you. Just that the pride must have been uh indescribable. Oh yeah. It took, it took me a minute to grasp it. Um, I said first played the game. That was just, I wasn't ready for that to be honest with you. I don't think anybody was, but I think it was for what had, what we had been through that week. I think that was a big thing for the fans in Buffalo as well as his teammates. Darren Darren is joining us here on the easter automotive group hotline. That's too obvious. I'm joe Giulio. So yeah, you were up in Buffalo and, and we've seen on social media. Darren, the communication between uh, Tamar and the team and their relationship. But just just tell us a little bit about what it was like and um, you know, just, just being up there and also, you know, that relationship and connection that they have, um, it was a special time because you know, you got a lot of teammates as an NFL player and one of the things, 90 minutes hit me earlier in the week was like, he's one of the guys that actually called a really friend. So I think it, you know, deep in his mind, I was, I was trying to reach and talk to him about it and he was kind of like brush it off. Like he didn't really talk about it a lot. But I knew that when he told me that I was the guy that he really admired and he was a real good friend of um, I was hoping that he was, you know, be ready to get ready and, and um, and I think that that kick off or to kick off. I think that had something to do with his, his drive that day for what he want to do for tomorrow Darren Hynes joining us, we're going to do one quick thing to try to reconnect cause your audio is getting a little fight in there. So just sit tight, Darren Darren Hynes joining us. He's the father of 19 Heinz who had two returns for a touchdown in Buffalo's regular season finale this past weekend, as you're getting ready to start for the playoffs are gonna be taking on the dolphins. It's so funny that he said that he knew what was coming because I was gonna say that made him always knows when something's coming the return. And like he said, the punch was probably what he was thinking. But you know, you think about, you know, he joins this Buffalo team in a trade where you know, the colts are selling off parts right? And so it also puts him in a position where he's on the last place team going to a Super Bowl contender. And you know, it's funny, I've known Darren for nine years now and this is what Raheem has played for his whole career, you know? Yes, getting to the NFL was part of it, but winning the Super Bowl is a bigger part of it and have that chance with Buffalo and to announce kind of how he joined the team this way in this moment in the spotlight was spectacular. We could bring Darren Hynes back on here on the history of automotive group hotline as we're talking about his son Naim and Julia was just referencing it is actually what I wanted to ask you about. You know, the the opportunity of where the colts were headed, right. You know, what's he thinking like as as things kind of were unfolding with the colts and then he gets traded to the bills where they're in a window man. I mean, they, they were trying their best to get to get to the Super bowl. What was kind of his initial thoughts when, when all this played out? What were your thoughts when all this stuff played out? Um, so he, he basically, he called me and I was on his last game in Minneapolis. I actually went to and about that Wednesday or thursday hit told me, he says, what do you think about me? Um, going to Buffalo? And he says, you know, I'm aging and he says, you know, I got that window of age and I said, like I get it. He says, um, I want just want to try to get more opportunity and we knew that Buffalo had reached out to him basically about every year that he played after his rookie year. Um, So, um, so you know, his agent called me during that week and he asked me was I gonna be up in indian? I said yes. So, um, after the game with the coach, we actually went and sat down at dinner with his agent and that's when the ball got rolling. Um, and so we knew that it was that possibility as of that weekend. Um, but we didn't know where the court's gonna let him go or or not, but uh, obviously worked out for him, he's happy. So that's the big thing. And I said, I'll support you wherever you're at, of course, although although Buffalo, I mean look like I've been to Indianapolis, I've been to buffalo at least when you go to a colts game, it's in a climate controlled environment. It gets cold and indie, but at least you're indoors, right? Buffaloes are different. Buffalo is different, man. It is. Um, and you know me as an asian parent, uh, you know, I thought about that dome and I was like, oh man, I gotta go back out the way. Uh, it was the thought process. So I said, well whatever you do, I'm gonna support you, but I go out there and freeze, I have to freeze. But I'm just watching. Uh, and so the funny thing is the first week he was up there, he actually, you know, I'm getting ready for the weather so I can get on amazon and order me and my fiance, heated gloves, heated socks, heated vest and uh, we get up there that friday. And I told him I said, I'm ready man for this weather. And uh, he says, I said, I bought, you know, this heated stuff, all this stuff. He said, well you're not gonna need that. And I was like, oh yeah, I am gonna need and this is not your gonna be inside. And I said, I'm saying to myself, what do you mean inside. And so I said I'll see you in my, in my mind. I'm saying I believe it when I see it. So we get to the game, he put us in uh uh, the uh club seats. Okay, nice. So it's not been bad. Just as good as it don't to me, you can tell him I said this. But do you know the first thing I thought of when he got traded to Buffalo, Do you remember when state played up at Notre Dame in social media? It was like 50 degrees and they showed him getting off the plane in like this parka and wool hat and I'm like states about to lose because they can't wait without him and we all know that. But it was, I was like, oh no, my guy is not a cold weather guy. Yeah, that was, that was a tough game. I sat through that. And man, I was like, when we realized that he was going to the NFL um I was thinking about that game actually saying, I hope I told him, I said, man, if you go to Green Bay or Buffalo somewhere, I'm probably gonna be done with you at about october, I'm gonna probably be watching, watching, you're still supporting. It's such a great story that all's well, that ends well here Darren. But as a dad, you're watching, you are, let's go back to monday night, you're watching the game, you're watching the Cincinnati game. And that wasn't a cheap hit. That wasn't a dirty player. That was a fluke football play. And you see Damar hamlin need Cpr, you see him need to be revived 24 years old. Uh, and you know, the position that no, he plays, it's the most dangerous playing football. The kickoff return. What was, what was going through your mind as a dad and knowing the risks that your son takes to play in the NFL um, seeing that. And I'll tell you how my usual approaches since he's been playing football. I've always say, uh, I never worried about it. I always say I'm putting in God's hands. So I never worry about it into a game. I never go into a game expecting him to get hurt. I just say, you know what happens is, you know, it's God's will. But that situation there, um, when he got up and then he fell down. The first thing that actually came to my mind, I started thinking about tour in his incident and then then, you know, obviously after that after the first incident, now he had an incident, Likewise, that while he was with the coach. So that's what I was thinking was going on when I said, well, he's probably got a concussion and you know, he's gonna be like, but then when I heard cPr my heart sank. Um because I had never seen anything. Like, um, so, you know, it was definitely a moment of it makes you do a lot of self check right there when you see something like that happen. Um So you know uh all I can do at that point which was pray once I realized they had to give them cigar and when they sent the teams in the locker room and I am actually texted me and told me that they had given CPR at that point, I didn't know that and then he said you know they had bought the uh out there and so that really I probably knew about that part of it before a lot of the fans did. Um So you know it was that was a defining moment, you know it made me think about him as a player and you know just it was just a self check moment for me, Darren Hynes, father of Naim Heinz, Buffalo Bill's former N. When I turned 45 I went to see my doctor for my annual physical, I told him doc, can you give me something for my stomach? He said, well, why joe? I said, it hurts after I drink coffee. It hurts after I ate ice cream or if I drink beer, he said, well, as only a doctor could don't drink coffee, don't eat ice cream and don't drink beer. Then your stomach won't hurt easier. Said than done. Doc. We know football is not good for us. We know what the players are risking for our entertainment and yet we can't help ourselves thankfully. Bill's trainer, Denny Killington saved Damar Hamlin's life. On monday night after a seemingly routine collision with Cincinnati's tee. Higgins thankfully, five days later, Hamlin appears to be on a full road to recovery. Hamlin's only 24. He nearly gave his life for football. He nearly gave his life for our entertainment. He knew the risks. We know the risks. And yet we reach for another coffee. We reach for another ice cream, we drink another beer, we watch another football game. <p>tough, um, emotional. Um, it was, you know, at certain times in sports, it becomes bigger than the sport that's going on right there on the field or on the court and, and my prayers. Um, I prayed, I got on my knees because, um, you know, I was, I was, you know, I experienced that firsthand with the young man from south Carolina state and it's tough as a, as a coach, as a player, as a family member, um, as anybody involved. And at that moment you don't care about anything but the safety of the player and the football and the basketball stuff. It doesn't matter at that moment because, you know, you just want, you know, you just want, you know, to make sure that he's okay. And so that was a tough moment for me.</p>
