DA seeks death penalty for 4 charged in employee deaths during attempted Pasquotank jailbreak

Prosecutors announced Wednesday that they will seek the death penalty against four inmates who are charged with the deaths of four prison employees back in October.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Prosecutors announced Wednesday that they will seek the death penalty against four inmates who are charged with the deaths of four prison employees back in October.

Mikel Brady, Jonathan Monk, Seth Frazier, and Wisezah Buchman were all in court Wednesday as the district attorney in Pasquotank County announced the move.

Killed in the October 12th escape attempt at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution were maintenance mechanic Geoffrey Howe, correctional officers Justin Smith and Wendy Shannon, as well as sewing plant manager Veronica Darden.

Pasquotank houses approximately 676 male inmates in close, medium and minimum custody.
