Cumblerland County schools consider earlier start

A Cumberland County schools administrator proposed changing the start time for classes in the fall, a move he said could save the district more than $300,000.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Cumberland County schools administrator proposed changing the start time for classes in the fall, a move he said could save the district more than $300,000.

Associate Superintendent Tim Kinlaw presented his suggestion Tuesday to the school board's Auxiliary Services Committee.

Kinlaw’s proposal would alter the schedule at the following schools:

  • Douglas Byrd Middle
  • John Griffin Middle
  • Ireland Drive Middle
  • South View Middle
  • Hope Mills Middle
  • Max Abbot Middle
  • E. Melvin Honeycutt Elementary
  • E.E. Miller Elementary
  • Rockfish Elementary
  • C. Wayne Collier Elementary
  • J.W. Coon Elementary
  • Montclair Elementary
  • Sherwood Park Elementary
  • New Century International Elementary
  • Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary
  • Gallberry Farms Elementary
  • William H. Owen Elementary
  • Cumberland Road Elementary
  • Honeycutt Elementary
