Cumberland deputies seek suspect in April home invasion

Sheriff's deputies in Cumberland County are searching for a man who they say held a homeowner at knife point while ransacking his home for cash and jewelry.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Sheriff's deputies in Cumberland County are searching for a man who they say held a homeowner at knife point while ransacking his home for cash and jewelry.

Investigators have issued arrest warrants for Melvin Harold Everette, 36, of 2503 Dasher Lane, a white male with brown hair and green eyes. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 174 pounds. He has the words "HELL RAZOR" tattooed on his right arm and a marijuana leaf tattooed on his left.

Deputies say that, on April 4, Everette and his accomplices forced their way into a home off George Owen Road, held the homeowner against his will and beat him with a baseball bat. The victim was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center to be treated for head injuries.

Everette faces second-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy and assault with a deadly weapon charges.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's office at 910-323-1500.

Deputies did not release any information on Everette's accomplices or whether they're in custody.
