FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County hosted a recruitment fair at Owen Elementary School on Tuesday to attract more teachers, cafeteria workers and custodians to work in Cumberland County Schools.

Sherald Thompson is one of the many people who came to the job fair on Tuesday. She said that COVID-19 sidelined her from her job with Hoke County Schools. But after a year she's been able to bounce back, and moved to Cumberland County for work.

Thompson is looking for a job as a Physician Assistant, a professional care assistant, or a permanent substitute.

The school system has 80 teaching positions to fill before school starts on Aug. 23.

"We have about 80 positions in the classified personnel," said Dr. Lillian McDavid, certified personnel supervisor for Cumberland County Schools. "We need custodial, we need prime time workers, we need bus drivers, we need child nutrition workers."
