The Cumberland County Board of Education provided a COVID-19 update on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021.
spirits. The death during this time can staff and students will prove that they're able to follow dies, and we won't have home it back to his friend. But in our flu setting, as a research suggests, mhm addition, we anticipate that during the next student his voluntary rates we'll finish the further is that from the holidays and that impact if for some reason at that time, the metrics are still too high. Certainly the board direct us. Definitely. If that is, this has we will implement the will of the board A list it, if that is a different path, that the more I would like for us to pay this time, Miral, respond accordingly. We truly appreciate it's highly patient of all hours. Have this there and board members doing this noble and them. They also say the essential staff who have continued to provide all sites of poet with food, with students that logic, then every of goods, million manners and security, nor the quarantine period. Madam Chair, entertain any questions you might have at this time about this adjustment, and Miss Bolin and my Cabinet are available as well. Okay, well, then, questions or comments I said, Miss Jones, hand. I see Mr West. Uh, order, please. This Charles? Yes. Good morning. Um, I have a couple of questions. Um, what are the consequences if you have some teachers that dude in it, I'll take the vaccine right now. We have not been wiring that team, but we are throwing it in Paris in it. Um, I planned to change it. Mrs Implanted hit. And most of us, I'm telling everyone help us yet looters and safely back in the building My attention. But there is no part of it at this time. Um, And my, um asked question is, so, um, staff will have one vaccine, um, one part of the thing when students are going back in, is it already set up for them to get the second part of it? They have a sham. Part of that, uh, right here. Three, uh, between the two, but not ranged. Well, on our way by the time we come back. Thank you. Um, Dr Kind of this is Greg on the March 15th recommendation. Is that all grades coming back A B B, or is that a staggering reentry? Uh, there will be, um uh, hey. Five melody or station dropping, helping him. But it will be a baby. Often it schedule. So, students, the only man two days or men. That's it. Yeah. I mean, there's me not able to hear Mel um, jumping. But it would be, um but yeah, E conley if if I may I e believe the plan was thio was to not stagger entry at this time due to the short amount of time between the start of face to face instruction and spring break. So I believe that was the discussion. We had a cabinets or right. Thank you. E a e everyone. Man A s. All grades come by a BB on March 15. I like that part of it. Thank you. Anyone else? I don't see, uh, and in one's hand on Dr Connelly are here from anyone. That man. Tell them to see it in that fashion. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It just hit me with all this going on on by postponing Thio to march, which I completely understand, um, catch on athletics. What does this mean for athletics? Any changes? No changes at this time. All the stuff that's in season. Okay, Thank you. Hey, Mr Johnson. One follow up throughout the Connolly wins. If this leaders were coming back March 15th, what's the plan for the staff? Go ahead. Rumor. Sorry, Mr West. The plan would be Thio. Have them return. Most likely the week following just for preparation purposes. Week following a week before. Oh, sorry the week before. Sorry That sorry about that. Could be a little rough following that. Hadn't been together in a year. All right, Miss Maslin. And now the March 15th date. Am I thinking that it will depend, too, on the metrics, uh, for them to come back. Is that a set date that they were coming? Uh, that's that's defending her back, having a new weapon off the majority of myself. Having been macerated, however, if the message are still offended high and everyone has been back there. But the more does not film have the bone, but everyone's having bad. Even with the vaccination. Uh, then tell the boys that make a difference. Uh, decision or direction at that time. Okay, because I know with the vaccination is not a sure anything that nothing will happen, but it helps in the you know control of the disease. So I was just wondering about that. Well, thank you very much. Yes, ma'am. We're not, is that it's not. The vaccination is not a sure, but I certainly hope that will help us. Two million. Uh, the essential minute, all more positive station. Anyone else? Mr. Um Makayla. Uh, Dr Connor, this is for you. But any of your staff can answer if you want to give it to them. What do we anticipate? As far as the number of teachers and staff that are will be anticipated coming back on the 15th. Uh, and if that will be enough to serve the students and if not, what is our backup plan? I have really helped with this, but the intention fact that because you're a big half of, uh uh, Monday and Tuesday half up, 30 Friday with have enough staff, the staff bathroom. Um, so if they have quite a few, uh, that would be versatile Women. You jump in. Yes, sir. Mr. McKellar, I think from a staffing standpoint, I think the staff in place the staff that we have in place a sufficient to provide quality instruction as well. A supervision. I think the biggest concern from a staffing perspective at this point has to do with the surgeon, the virus and the number of individuals that are out quarantining and or in isolation. Hopefully, as we get into the March period, individuals would have had an opportunity to be vaccinated. We would have been out of the winter months and we would see a decrease in case positivity which shouldn't let off on the constraint that this is having on our sub availability. So from from a h r human capital perspective, do believe way would be in good shape by that time, sir. Okay. And what is our anticipated, uh, present? Or maybe even if it's a completion of all the vax vaccinations, will they be all taken place by, uh, March the 15th to anticipate that? And we haven't figured out that schedule yet, Man. Anticipate that they will be considered by the time time I enjoyed it Will be said on Were also is grueling. Our comments, son, in the vaccination priority. Okay. All right. Thank you. It's great, Dio, I guess for more for Reuben Will the teachers still will Some teachers still have well employees really have the, um, option of working remote still. Yes, ma'am. Miss Musgrave, the availability of the vaccine is not This is not gonna impact the current accommodations request that we have in place that have been approved. So those individuals have been approved to work through Tele work through the duration of plan B that the availability of the vaccine would not impact that at least through this academic year. I think we will assess once we get through this academic year, the impact that will have next year. But for this year, a staff member has submitted a tele work request that was approved by their principal and human resource. Is that would not. That would not change at this point. That's great. Thank you. You see? Oh, the fact that it has not accommodated everyone's input. Yes. Yes, sir. On believe this is something that we've touched on in previous meetings. As of right now, we have about 295 request to tell a work a Z. You guys know the ability for us to have every teacher that wants to tell a work telework is just not eyes just not feasible because We need staff supervising students while students are on site. Um, you know, this, uh, this delay of re entry will will allow, um, those individuals to continue teaching allow a continuity of service, and and hopefully, when the numbers are a little bit better and folks have an opportunity to be vaccinated, um, that will increase our our staffs comfort in returning. So, as I indicated, Miss Musgrave, if they request has been submitted and approved, that will not change the outcome. But we may have some staff that once they are vaccinated, they may feel more comfortable returning. And we will leave that up to them, Um, at that particular point in time And along that line, Um, I hope nobody take this the wrong way, but I just wanna share with you. I read everything about the virus and the school systems and everything. Um, and I truly pray, and I don't see us doing that. I hope we don't. There was one school system who told the people they returned to work on. They will no longer be Sarid, and, uh, we hope we never have the turn to that. Oh, but I hope we're all reading. I'm sure we are everything that we see in reference to the other school systems. And what the, um, medical, uh, community is saying also. Mm. It's a bad way to have to go, I think. But one school system did do that. I hope we don't ever do that. But Mitch is, um can I ask one more question about the high school E f C. S? What's the plan for those? Good morning, Mr West. We plan to do the EOE CS and the CTE assessments. The week of March the eighth through the 11th will be able to get those students in. And I've already contacted D. P I. And we will request for permission to test outside the window, and all of that will be done online. So we'll be able to proceed along with that. And then when the students come back on the 15th, all the testing will be completed. Thank you, buddy. Oh, and another thing I noticed, um, and watching all the stats from from common County Health department and notices that Dr Conley and surely gives us we hear a lot about the sports, but that we've had doctor kind of having teams that we had were almost the whole team had. Oh, take time. Miss Chisholm. This is shortly. We currently have two teams under quarantine. Okay, Thank you. And that's all we have had. Uh, no, sir. No, ma'am, I believe we've had to others. It's time we have to. Okay. I'd like to keep that in mind because it looks as if we're everyone is insisting that the team can function because it's safe for them. And then I noticed, whenever we have, those are complete teams that have to quarantine. So we need to take care of us. Are athletes athletes, athletes all the time? Yes. Who's handed? I see Mr War for Thank you, Mr Chisholm. Um, I just have a couple of questions. Slash concerns. Um, the so the the metrics. We're still talking about pending positive metrics. Is faras a return now in in March? Is there Is there any Can we get any guidance on what positive Kobe metrics look like at this point? Um, I'm still I feel like it's still a little unclear. Is that what we're framing for this point? But our original law was 7%. Um, but Everyone knows that nowhere. Yeah, that right now, uh, 15. Uh, sent. Um, that's why I said our strategy down this is everyone vaccinated? Um, we do anticipate that the metrics, man, you know, high and more on that point, Uh, the more they never direction there isn't tenure march, um, returned. Jimmy, that majority have been vaccinated or doing different decisions. Okay, I understand. I thank you for clarifying that, Um, I guess my other concern based on that, is, uh, the ABC science collaborative presentation that we had last week made it seem like, uh, schools were, uh, if done properly and safely having kids back in school.
