APEX, N.C. — Four people were forced from their homes after a blaze broke out at the Wake County house Wednesday night, authorities said.

Crews responded to the fire at a home on Johnson Pond Road at about 9:30 p.m. and found that 50 percent of the home was on fire.

All four residents who lived in the home were able to get out safely, but one person was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries and another was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

One resident said they credited working smoke decors with allowing the family to escape.

Crews from multiple fire departments were responding to the scene and authorities said explosions caused by ammunition inside the home posed a problem when battling the blaze.

One dog died in the fire, but two other pets were able to escape, authorities said.

Authorities did not say what caused the fire.
