APEX, N.C. — Emergency crews of nearly 30 firefighters responded to a large house fire in Apex Thursday night.

Firefighters from three fire departments arrived at 8410 Humie Olive Road around 9:30 p.m. to the fire that started in a car garage.

"The building was a total loss," said Jeff Maynard, assistant chief of Apex Fire Department. "It was burning from one side to the other. They're still trying to cool a lot of hot spots to get in there and see what was inside the garage."

Maynard said a fire hydrant was more than half a mile away, which was a challenge in putting the fire out.

There were no reported injuries or rescues.
