Crews rescue man, dog standing atop car in Neuse River
Rescue crews assisted a man and his dog, who were stuck in the Neuse River on Friday morning.
Posted — UpdatedSky 5 flew over the scene before 8:45 a.m., where a man was standing on his car in the river near Mial Plantation Road in the Knightdale area.
Video shows rescuers in inflatable boats helping the man and his pet off the car and into the raft. By 9 a.m., the man and rescuers were off the boat and on dry land.
Skid marks beside the river indicate that the man lost control of his car and plowed into the river before floating away from land. It was not clear how long the man was in the water before he was rescued.
At least two rescue boats responded.
According to Battalion Chief Brian Bunn from the Knightdale Fire Department, an investigation is underway.
Michael Crowley, District Chief with Eastern Wake EMS, said the man was being treated at the scene and appeared to be okay.
An ambulance was also assisting the dive team.
Teams are still attempting to remove the vehicle from the river.
